And I would like to remind everyone that Luftgekühlt II will be held this Sunday, March 1st in the City of Angels:
The location of the event is at Bandito Brothers - 3249 South La Cienega Blvd in Los Angeles. Gate opens a 7:30 AM for staging Porsches, although the event officially starts at 9 AM. My fellow R Gruppe members will show up in force...and hopefully some of you Rennlisters too!
Here is a glimpse of the first event held last year - Luftgekühlt I

Patrick Long, who is a member R Gruppe, sent the following message to us re: Luftgekühlt II this Sunday (March 1st):
"Gents,
As we told everyone, the show will go on regardless of rain fear. The focus may move indoors where we have already set up some very rarely seen cars and a ton of social space. Although the weather man can't make his mind up, I would say 50% chance we will see rain at some point Sunday. If you don't like your car driven in the damp, leave it at home and come join us for a nice, stress-free morning where you need not think about rain anymore. Plenty of general parking if you decide to leave the oldie at home and come in the "work truck." This event is open to the public. Thanks! And remember, this is supposed to be loose and fun.
Patrick"
So come on down rain or shine to Luftgekühlt II!

Well, I am here without my old oil-cooled baby - she is in the shop getting the valves adjusted for the first time in 27 years - and they were barely off!
Just did the old DME relay switcheroo for the first time in 12 years. She conked out on a 2 hr trip, almost stranding me. Otherwise, she's been trouble-free for many years.
But I am down to get my Luftgekuhlt on and have my photo gear with me!

Unfortunately, no. I am arriving in Los Angeles next Thursday for the annual Los Angeles Porsche 'memorabilia' show at the LAX Hilton on March 7th. I have been attending this event since the late 1980's and it's one of the highlights of my Porsche-related calendar of events every year.

I am hoping we can convince Patrick Long to next year coordinate his event better with the memorabilia week-end. The conflict is that the LAX Hilton meet is on Saturday morning and the Phoenix Club event is scheduled on Sunday morning (taking over from the former great Dunkel Brothers event).
And the open houses are on Friday.

But I would propose that next year's Luftgekühlt III be scheduled for Friday and we move the open houses to Thursday. This will anchor the Luftgekühlt to the memorabilia weekend and give those that come from Europe, Asia, South America and all parts of the US for the iconic memorabilia event ANOTHER reason to justify their trip to Los Angeles for this special 4/5 days!

Well, I went and it was SO MUCH better attended than I expected. Weather was absolutely perfect. It was cloudy for most of the time, but that actually made for great pictures as there was little glare or shadowing. There was some really amazing cars that showed up and ofcourse I ran out of space on my phone before I got to most of the really good stuff. I tried to clear my phone but for some reason no matter how many videos and pix I deleted from my iphone, it didn't want to give me any more space for more pix > But there was several 356 Speedsters, a 904GTS, Jeff Zwart's 906 Carrera 6, several race cars, Wayne of Pelican Parts brought out his 959, the 356 Continental that usually resides in the Petersen Museum was also in attendance (Museum is currently under remodeling), a real 964 Carrera RS 3.8 was on display and a whole slew of gorgeous 911's of all years from 901 to 993, 912's, 914's and 356's. There were even quite a few waterpumpers on display including a 991 GT3. I'm so glad I found out about this event, besides the fact that it's only about 3 miles from my house, it was one of the best Porsche events I've been to. The only thing that would have made it better is if there was an RSK or 550 there, but hey, there's always next year Moving forward, this event is definitely forever on my must go to calender. Met some wonderful people as well and really enjoyed talking about the cars with those that I met.
