I originally drove a 12C on a track in Vegas with exotics racing. Absolute incredible track car, much better on the track than anything I drove that weekend, including a 911 turbo, GTR, 458, and Corvette

When I returned a couple months ago, I was told they sold both their 12Cs because the Mclarens broke down far more often than the Porsches, GTRs, Corvettes, or even the 458s.

That really worries me about the long-term durability of a McLaren, in addition to the 5 items I posted a page ago. They are brilliant track cars, but I'll just happily track my GT3.

I agree with many of these comments... The 12C/650S was designed too heavily by engineers, not marketeers... It's a scalpel, but buyers in their target market of 458/huracan are largely not too concerned with that last 10th, but the looks, sound, emotion in them and emotion in others... There are not enough performance/track buyers in the $250 range to support it... They're trying with the 650S to be more exotic, but it will take a generation or two to get there...

I don't think that their target for the 12C/650S was the GTS/GT3/Turbo/R8/AMG GT buyer, but that's where they ended up due to inventory.... Their car for that market is the upcoming 'sports series'... I actually think that the less exotic sounding/looking formula should work well in this market - at this price point there are more daily drivers, and the more 'exotic' r8 is actually a drawback, as many buyers don't want the attention on a daily basis... I believe that's why the GT3/Turbo are popular in this range, cause they perform, but to most are just another Porsche... I haven't seen it yet, but I imagine the sports series will remain more subtle like the 12C... For me personally, I'm looking at the Turbo and the R8, but if AWD wasn't needed the new McL would be included in that mix well ahead of the r8... It doesn't look great for me to pull up in my office parking lot in a 'exitoc', even though an r8 can be had for $130 and the turboS could be $200, most don't understand reality...

I always have to remind myself that McLaren is really only like 5yrs old as a car manufacturer - I know they've been around forever, made the f1 and the SLR, but the 12C was their first real 'volume' road car from top to bottom... I do not expect McLaren to compete in sales with Ferrari and Lambo who are each well established - history, brand awareness, dealer network, installed customer base, etc, etc. I think their strategy of leveraging a single tub and engine package for multiple markets is smart, and will allow them to get the volumes needed for manufacturing/dealers/service/etc quicker, but I also believe that we will see significantly greater improvements model to model over the next 10yrs than we will see in the others, as they play catch-up in some of these areas... Just looking at the amount of upgrades every year, it is clear that they are still learning, but smart to provide these upgrades to existing owners... Who knows how it will ultimately work out, but I hope they succeed and provide a highly capable competitor for the 458/Huracan and another for the 911/r8/AMG GT... It's good for us as the market to have capable options!

Some additional specs on the 675 LT:
Offical: 40% more downforce, 666 hp, 516 lb ft

Unofficial:
Weight: 100kg less than the 650S Coupe (Would make it 1,230 kg dry weight)
0-100 km in 2.9 sec
0-200 km in 7.9 sec

Starting to regret not putting a deposit down....

From the picture leaked, u can notice minor modifications on the side of the front bumper, and that the brake wing is a bit larger.. I really doubt they can achieve 40% more downforce, but it would be amazing if they did..

Agree - 40% seems like a big jump. I didn't expect it to be like the figures that they're putting out and I don't think they have the brand strength to not deliver against them.

Will be interesting to see when videos start to roll of it, but it's shaping up to be a great car.

...Until they do a version with a little bit more boost and wing... Sorry, just don't see anything unique or special about this - like say a 4.0 RS - that will stand the test of even a few years time.

I think it's generally hard to argue Porsche resale on limited edition models vs McLaren. Of course the McLaren F1 trumps any Porsche price performance, but it's very much an anomaly among cars in general.

I'm also far less confident on 4.0 RS values over the medium term with the rumor now been talked about publicly of a 991 4.0 stick in the future. Same issue applies to any car manufacturer, no? They all want to make profits and if there is a market there, they'll sell into it.

I'd be more than just curiously interested in a McLaren ... If their dealership network wasn't akin to the VHS repairman in terms of market availability.
