"NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- West Coast port operator Pacific Maritime Association said it will temporarily suspend vessel operations on Thursday as well as Saturday through Monday amid stalled contract talks with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union. Yard, gate and rail operations will continue at terminal operators' discretion, it said in a statement Wednesday. Thursday is Lincoln's birthday and Monday is Presidents Day. PMA said weekend and holiday pay rates command a premium of at least 50% over basic longshore wage rate, meaning it would have to pay on those days between $54 to $75 per hour for longshore workers and clerks and between $77 and $92 per hour for foremen. PMA said it won't conduct vessel operations on those dates and pay full shifts amid work slowdown that it said has "severely diminished productivity." The protracted negotiations between the two parties have put many stakeholders including retailers, manufacturers as well as farmers on edge. "

Vessel operations will be suspended at U.S. West Coast ports, the Pacific Maritime Association said Wednesday.
"Last week, PMA made a comprehensive contract offer designed to bring these talks to conclusion," said PMA spokesman Wade Gates.
"The ILWU responded with demands they knew we could not meet, and continued slowdowns that will soon bring West Coast ports to gridlock. What they're doing amounts to a strike with pay, and we will reduce the extent to which we pay premium rates for such a strike."
PMA, which represents about 70 shipping companies, has accused dockworkers of conducting slowdowns, walk-offs and "other actions at key ports, aggravating congested conditions and disrupting cargo movement" in a bid to influence the ongoing contract negotiations.
PMA has been working with the dockworkers union, International Longshore & Warehouse Union, to negotiate new contracts since May. Nearly 20,000 dockworkers at 29 ports are impacted.

That's good news it's crossing the canal finally. Hopefully in the next 8 days the SD port issues are resolved. San Diego maritime schedule shows 2/18 as arrival for dong. http://www.sdmis.org/schedule/

10pm the previous night. If the schedule holds, they may actually unload the vehicles on Thursday. I have no idea how long it will take to get a car transport to me in NorCal.

True, but the schedule still claims that the auto transports are running on schedule. There aren't that many auto transports listed. For instance, there are 2 ships arriving tonight, but no other ships for 2 days after that.
