OT : Daytona qualifying
Anyone else have a sinking feeling after seeing the LM 911's end up 8th, 9th , and 10th in a ten car field ? Don't know if there is more to it than meets the eye - they looked good at the Roar a couple weeks ago . The fastest one is nearly a second off the Corvette pole .

I just saw the practice session. Track conditions are somewhat off. It is overcast while tomorrow looks sunnier. Don't know what setup they were running. The cars looked good on the track. At one point in time they were up to third. I have no idea if there was some kind of BOP sandbagging going on.

I watched several of the races last season. While they were consistent all season (which helps in season points), they were consistently mediocre. If the C7.R team figures out how to keep the car from breaking, it will crush the 911s. The engine in the 911 just seemed way underpowered for the job.

It is real early for the race weekend and for the season. It is not unusual for most teams, including the C7R Corvettes, to "sandbag" their times and their speed. Any show of exceptional speed early in the season will just mean additional weight penalty throughout the rest of the season. So Daytona and Sebring are usually sorting out races. The real show will come around LeMans. You will not really know what they're up to until that time.

Does anyone know the Year and Model / HP of the Rum Bum Porsche 911 Continental Challenge car that won today?

If it were a shorter race I'd be concerned. But in a 24 hour race reliability and consistency are far more important -- as long as you aren't completely off the pace. A second off the Vettes shouldn't be an issue because they'll break.
