really the gt3 is second here. i mean who considers the atom a competitor to any real car. its not a road car...
but, at the same time, im not sure the gt3 is as close to the speciale as they let on. as a track car yes. but in a straight line, the 458 would certainly leave the gt3 in the dust. and as much as i love the sound of my gt3, i can only imagine how fantastic the speciale sounds.

It's all a cool discussion, but really, my 0 option 991 GT3 is at such a ridiculous price point (based on performance metrics) compared to a 458 Sp how could you even put them side by side? For the same cost as a 458 Sp I can buy my car and spend $10,000 a month every month for the next couple of years on travel and whatever, really. And with the P car, I can put 30- 50k street and track miles on in maybe 5 years and it's all normal. The F car if it hits 10k in that timeframe is very unusual. That being said, it's maybe the best F car in class ever, but......well, I guess I do want one...........

The 458S should be compared to the 3RS not the 3. But as that's not out yet it's fair enough. We'll see whether the same test next year gives it to the Porsche! Journalists like new stuff .
Personally I think the S looks amazing. No carpet or radio FFS! Incredible 9k rpm drivetrain. What's not to like? I'd consider it over the GT3 but it's out of my league.

Driven a 991 GT3, and have ridden a friend's Speciale. the Ferrari undoubtedly feels a lot more... um... "special". and even compared to a regular 458, the GT3 has a somewhat "heavy" feel, compared to the Ferrari that is almost unnaturally light. i think it's down to the steering feel. and as manic as the 991's motor likes to rev, the Speciale is another level up again.
anyway, going back to feel, some people prefer the heft, some people prefer the lightness. to each his or her own.
over here where i live, a Speciale costs close to $650k, and a 991 GT3 about $310k.
the GT3 is-- based on my limited seat time-- the car that comes closest to the 458 in feel, mainly because of the transmission, motor and suppleness of suspension. my buddy who owns the Speciale test drove a GT3 and echoed a bit of my impressions: half the price of the Speciale, but certainly way more than just half the car.
IMO, coming in 2nd to the Speciale (and beating the Mclaren) is a HUGE feather in the GT3's cap.
no shame there AT ALL.

The Speciale is amazing. You can hear how much louder the cabin noise is versus the GT3. No wonder there is no stereo. If price wasn't a consideration and tracking was this car's primary duty..Speciale would be it. For mostly street use, the GT3 carries the day by a long shot. As far as tracking, I am leaving out the consumable and reliability factor for Ferrari....Again, the GT3 will win there too.

Who is Lewis Kingston and what is his major malfunction? Richard Bremner? Look at the cars they put over the GT3.
And then there was Steve Sutcliffe passionately saying on video he thinks this was the best sports car he's ever driven. A year later, it's #4, beaten out by others including a Corvette. Really?
Makes one question how these guys are making their assessments.
Dan (wonders if there are inducements involved)

Also, surprised how poorly the M4 did. I wonder if something was wrong with the setup. Do these guys even take the trouble to dial in hot tire pressures?

Single handedly dropped the Atom from first to second- the Atom guys must be pissed. And owns a '68 Firebird. So we know he's got courage of conviction...

Interesting that three out of eight put the Cayman GTS ahead of the GT3.
