Says it right here folks.. And this magazine usually gets it right.

"
Errr, so what does this mean for the 911 Turbo?

The mind boggles what this means for the more hardcore GT3 and GT2 models, let alone the Turbo - traditionally the only blown 911.

Our sources indicate the GT3 will remain ""naturally aspirated, with a greater focus on light weight; there’s hope yet for old-school 911 fans.

Makes sense...although I don't know about those horsepower numbers they are claiming. 400 HP from 2.9L, that is some serious boost they would have to be running...or maybe counter it with high rpm. Either way, if they have that much horsepower, I am sure there will be a significant increase in base price for the standard carrera and carrera S.

I would guess that they would slightly increase the HP# and significantly increase TQ...like BMW did with their M3/M4. From 414 HP, 295 TQ from the V8 to 430 HP, 375 TQ. Using this strategy the base carrera would be 365 HP, 365 TQ and the carrera S would be 425 HP, 400 TQ. That makes more logical sense. Then they can save the HP jump to the turbo and turbo S.

Their HP and TQ numbers seem too high - 530bhp and 520lb ft for the C2S...

well, both...

but what I meant is that I highly doubt Porsche is going to overnight move to turbocharging all of their cars except the gt3... that just seems highly unlikely in the short term... especially all at once for the 991.2 generation

+1! If the C2S moves to current turbo territory...with RWD only?! Basically GT2 territory of not that long ago?! Not sure how the average C2S customer will handle that power...

The new Carrera will have as much power as the old Turbo, and the new Turbo will have even more power.
This means the current 991 Turbo will depreciate once 991.2 models debut... I am glad I just sold my 991 Turbo S

I think most of this is incorrect. Facts are not a priority for the press these days Remember the 992 GTS report? There will be FI 911s but not all and with incremental power increase over current.

It's all just really speculation at this point, but it is amazing how completely contradictory the rumours are about the fate of the GT3. We've all been thinking this 991.1 generation would probably be the last NA engine, and now there's this report that it may not be.

If the report is correct, I wonder how much performance they can extract from a NA engine even with additional weight reduction (which will no doubt cost a lot--think $180K GT3RS) to compete with the big gains FI would bring to more basic 911 models. I can't imagine PAG would ever let a C2S overshadow the GT3, or even close the gap to an inconsequential increment.

It will be very interesting to follow this story over the next 2-3 years! Thanks for the link CAlexio.

The M4 has a 3.0L engine with at least 420hp, so 400hp seems about right.

At least these turbo engines will have tons of torque. Even with the same horsepower, they will perform much better than the n/a counterparts. Driving enjoyment is another story.
