^^Same position - I HATE that I love the PDK-S. I feel that I am cheating or something by admitting this. I still have problems explaining this to friends who have never experienced this type of gear-box

Love the PDK box in the GT3. But I do miss the manual.
Thing is, I don't miss it enough to have ordered a manual if it were a choice.
Nor, do I miss it enough to prefer a 997 GT3 or another manual car.

I HATE that I love the pdk Just did 7 hours in a 997.1 gt3. Kept it in 6th and just pretended it was a pdk. No 3rd pedal work unless necessary Really weird how we all bit** and moan and yet when they arrive we all adapt in very short order. It sits pulled to the right most of the time and I'm a paddle junky now. But who would have thought hmmmmm

That said, PDK-S is all about fast times. Pick your priority, or as you say, try to own one of each.

Be sure you test drive a manual M4 before buying the car. I did and neither tranny is very good, but the manual is just plain lousy
Both Porsche transmissions, 997/987 era manual and PDK-S, are the best out there.

Just been out for a Sunday drive and as was seeing the folks in the Shire decided to drive Stage 1 of this year's Tour de France.
Very mixed roads from high speed dial carriageway to single track where I had to back up 200 yds to let a tractor pass. Needless to say car was awesome. Pretty slippery conditions with a fair bit of rain and fallen leaves. Got the car sliding about a bit, went over a jump and narrowly missed a sheep.
More fun with the PDK than a manual because i was always in the right gear for the situation. A quick shift down before every corner and first or second for hairpins. I was in manual mode of course but in my manual C2S I wouldn't have bothered to make all those changes then would have been out of the power band a few times as a result. PDKS manual means you can be ON IT all the time if you want. Standard PDK is not the same because it's never truly manual.
Here's a photo of the sheep to prove I'm telling the truth.

I miss my 997 manual but not my 991 manual. Different car, I love the PDK-S and Having driven the 991 Cup with sequential gearbox, the PDK-S is surprisingly similar. I'd love to have a 997 stablemate but I just wouldn't drive it enough to merit it.

It's kind of heresy, but lately I'm thinking PDK-S for the track, manual for the road. Kind of having a "been there, done that" feeling about manual on the track, resulting in feeling that rewards may no longer be outweighing risks. But I say this after having enjoyed driving manual cars on track to get to this point. I think I would have missed out on something worthwhile if I had used only PDK on track from day one.

Personally I prefer to live the joy of rowing through each gear on the road because there is no lap times or anything to worry about except the joy you get out of it. I don't care if I have the fastest car as long as it puts a smile on my face.
Out on the track you're looking for extracting as much out of yourself and the car so it does make sense to have the latest and the greatest.

I agree with this statement a 100%! Hence the reason I chose a 997.2 over a 991.
