I let Chris Harris test drive it for me. He said it was ok. I took his word for it!

7 is a lot! This was the first I have seen in the wild. It had temporary tags.

I haven't seen a 997 gt3 on the road in over a year. There is a red one in Roswell. I think the number of spottings may show how streetable this car is vs the 997.
I've ridden in - but not driven - a 991 GT3. Biggest surprise to me was the compliance. It's a Cadillac compared to my 997.1; anyone complaining that the 991 isn't suitable for DD is looking for excuses IMO.

I DD my car, no issues yet.

Sgroer - Nice write up and completely agree with all you conveyed. But wait - it gets better. In a month from now you will still be blown away because the more you get used to the car and the more you explore- the more you will rave about it. Wait until you are at dead stop at a 4- way and you make a hard right from stand still and you decide to punch it a little bit. Fun as heck to slide this car and so predictable and easy to control

I think several have, probably more than you'd expect.

You had a lot more chances to get a test drive in a 918 than in a GT3. The customer base is really small, they've had tons of events to promote the car and they know you're a real buyer once they have your 200K deposit, rather than 1K or 5K for a GT3.

Fly to germany for a test drive ? I suppose if you are going to drop close to $1 mill on a car, the effort would be worth it.

I did test drive my 6-3 since it was a delivered car and the person who ordered it bailed.I drove it and the 996TT and picked it the 3. No such luck on this car...I have little doubt I will love this ride more.

Actually, quite a few potential US buyers of the 918 were able to test drive the 918 at various Porsche 918 Roadshows in the U.S.

Atlanta, being one of the sites, and I believe NY and Palm Springs as well, but don't quote me on that.

Cheers.

Thanks for the write up.

I also have a GT3 and a Jeep. I have a 50 mile commute made up of back roads (15 miles) and highway (35 miles) Every day I go into the garage with every intention of taking my Jeep and I leave in the GT3. I'm at 4k miles in 4 weeks.

Those events I suspect will continue, given that they are still far from sold out. And that fire incident will surely result in a recall and redesign I am afraid. Lots of idiots refuel every day, yet cars are safe enough not to catch fire.

FWIW,I've been reading that they're more than 80% sold out. As a matter of fact, they're saying that United States is the only(might be wrong here) market that has allocations left.
From what I know, the Porsche experts still didn't get their hands on the burned car. It is still in authorities/insurance hands. I do not believe there will be a stop sale/recall because of that incident...it might have just been a freak accident.

Sorry for the OT OP...

Well, there are lots of freaks out there even plenty with a million bucks to pay for this car. So this incident will repeat unless a stop is put to it by porsche. 80% sold, sounds high. Yes, you can also still order them here in Dubai.

Head on over to the 918 forum and read actual expecting owners feedback regarding the sales percentage from their contacts(higher management) inside PAG.
