What's the fascination with white?

RLs: As of September 24, 2014, straight from Porsche AG, is the current break-down of all 2015 991 GT3, exterior color rates: I would agree that 60% or more of all GT3 models ever built, are in fact white; however, I was surprised to see the current breakdown concerning the 2015 991 GT3... White: 25.4% Black: 21% Carrara White Metallic: 10.5% Agate Gray Met: 9.4% Jet Blk Met: 7.2% Guards Red: 6.1% GT Silver Met: 6.1% Sapphire Blue Met: 5.5% Rhodium Silver Met: 3.3% Racing Yellow: 2.8% Dark Blue Met: 2.8% In the end, I went with Guards Red. White was a close second. My third choice was Sapphire. Cheers/BB

Photons do in fact have mass. All colors absorb photons and reflect one particular wave length. White reflects them all making it the lightest/fastest, with black being the heaviest/slowest. Red is well, just the little stepchild.....

Speed yellow and orange are fastest but, objectively, white looks best.
That said, distinction should be made between regular white and metallic carrera white. I've seen them side by side. Carrera is a starker white, with bluish and grayish tint in some light and angles. Looks more like an appliance. Regular is softer and warmer, and I like it better.

tomato /tomahto... I find the regular white to be sportier, brigher, pop, true white (and I agree starker is a reasonable term)...but the Carrera white metallic to be almost a light grey, shiny, pearly, don't think it looks as appropriate on a gt3 as it would like an audi RS5...not race car white, but again of course just my opinion...im glad I got to see them in person...

Okay - I was at a Porsche Dealer a couple of weeks ago and he said they can not keep White Porsches in inventory. White is the new grey. He said a couple years ago white would sit on the lots and the grey ones' were selling right off the shelf.
I like GR the best. I went with white because I just had a GR turbo so wanted to switch it up a little and, because historically, the GT3s' signature color was white

Joking aside, due to the above effect a white (light) car WILL be cooler than a black (dark) one, all things being equal -- and temperature control is a factor in racing. Have you touched a black car in the paddock on a sunny day?

Well red is hot but white is cool. So it all depends on whether you think hot is cool or vice versa.
