OT: Smiles per gallon contender?
If the Veyron and 918 are examples of using brute force to bend physics to man's will, perhaps this is on the other end of the spectrum in terms of doing more with less. VW XL Sport, debuting in Paris:
For those that aren't familiar, VW's XL1 is arguably the world's most efficient "real" car, getting somewhere well north of 100 mpg (261 officially) with relative safety and comfort, and shows what's possible if economy is really a priority: http://www.autoblog.com/2013/03/11/2...-review-video/
What the XL1 isn't, however, is fun- it has just enough power to get out of its own way. Cue the XL Sport, which takes the more with less concept of the XL1 and adds fun factor to the priority list...

5.7 to 60 and nearly 170 mph out of a 1.2L Ducatti engine, figure less than 2000 lbs. It's an original Honda insight (which got 61 mpg highway) mashed up with a Lotus Exige... And I have to say, it looks like it could be a lot of fun down some of my favorite back roads. When doing more with more gets pointless, maybe doing more with less isn't looking too bad?
