Launch control
Reading the manual the RPM maxes out at 6500 following the procedure. What is the Max RPM with the PDK sport activated before you see the Launch control activated? Still 6500 or 9K?
Anyone tried the PDK Sport on followed by launch control procedure?

I haven't tried launch control in any mode yet. But my understanding is that the launch control procedure is the same regardless of selected mode. In fact, as I'm sure you're aware Kamal, all you have to do is step on the brake, floor the throttle, and release the brake when the launch light comes on. I'm willing to bet 6500 is the optimal launch rpm regardless of mode.

Thanks Mike. Manuals say's in PDK Sport mode the gear changing points are shifted to higher revs so I was wondering if the 6500 goes upward as well. We need someone on next track day to try the two diff scenario.

silverrules - My understanding; in PDK sport it still launches at 6500 but the gear shifts in automatic will be at 9000( right at limit) - if you are going to launch this car take the human tendencies out of it and let the car do it for you - it will not input any subjectivity

Thx Jimmy. My friend said the same thing. Put it in PDK Sport and watch the RPM hit 9K RPM and it will keep it up there in the high revs and no need to look at the Tach. It will do it all for you. I heard its crazy fun and be nice to try it on a rental

When my car has more miles I am not concerned about doing this.
You saw the video on how many times they tested the Turbo. We all have to get this "engine" thing out of our mind and realize we all got brand new engines that was delivered as originally promised - awesome!

After having seen the vid of the TT being launched 50+ times in succession, and reading the reports of Porsche testing the GT3 with 500 launches and no problems I'm not too afraid of the mechanical issues.
The way I see it, if I'm going to do a launch control start I'd like to let it run out at least 3 gears so you're talking triple digit speed. I haven't been anywhere yet with the car where I'd feel safe doing that from a standing start!

There was some talk on PH that after you use launch control the gearbox remaps and possibly top speed is lower in sport plus. Anyone here know what they're talking about or experience this?

Here is what the manual says: if the driver requires max acceleration (Full throttle up to rev limit), engine intervention is suppressed to make up upshift more sporty and comfortable. The engine also operates at full power during gear changes, reinforcing the dynamic torque increase still further.

Hi guys.... I have tried the launch control about 8 times so far. I started using it after the car hit 3000 miles. I am not concerned at all about the tear & wear to the car as these cars are built for it, and it is so much easier on the car than say a hard launch using a manual tranny during a track event or an Autocross. So far I used it mainly to launch the car at the start of track events & also Autocross events. I found out that you easily gain 1/2 second in an Autocross event, so I will continue to use this function during these events and in particular autocrosses as 1/2 second is so precious.
Now back to silver question, the starting RPM does start around 6500 RPM, and aftera very slight drop in RPM, the rpm will continue to climb all they way to 9000 rpm in 1st gear before shifting to second. I personally did not notice much difference if you select sport or not, but it seems I get slightly quicker times on smooth, even pavement when I disconnect the traction control as it allows for more wheel spin, and stronger forward thrust. On uneven surfaces, keeping the traction Control on yields better times, and better launches. Hope this helps answer your questions. Mark
