Nissan Leaf?
Free 2 year charging in SF.

If not electric, then a Focus ST.

993 by default for now.

I won't park the GT3: (1) at the airport, (2) at any valet, (3) outdoors for any significant period of time (hail is a not infrequent issue during the summer here), etc.

If you are getting a beater for leaving at Bart, just get something cheap to insure, run, repair, that you won't give a crap about if it gets dinged, hit, etc. I like the used Honda civic or GTI idea. Miata maybe. Skip the cooper, it doesn't meet 2 of the 3 criteria (cheap to run, repair, I have one, it's high maintenance).

You could buy our 2011 A3 TDI.....loaded, low miles......

Just ordered a BMW i3 Rex. It will make a great runabout but doesn't exactly meet your criteria for being inexpensive.

328xi is my daily driver, holding the plate for the new GT3 when she comes.

I also have a 2000 Mercedes ML430 which is my winter beater and ski/mountain car with 190K miles. This would make a perfect BART parking lot bruiser that could take a ding or two and even hurt the car that dinged it!

These are great multipurpose vehicles that are a good deal and less than 10K now. Find a grandma/grandpa model that was well maintained- the motors and transmission seem to last forever, but do need better than factory recommended flushes. If you are a skier, you have the perfect snow vehicle. They have amazing traction for their size and weight- ours is much better than our 2010 X5D in the snow and ice.

The e36 m3 is a great car. I picked one up for 5k with 155k mi. Fun, easy to fix and find parts.

Touché!

I guess my soul was too stirred by the ability to save 45 minutes / way via the HOV lane.

Former beater was an r56 JCW Mini hatchback.

I keep forgetting the left communist priviledged lane.......
Do you get to pick a color or are you assigned a number and get the next one of the line ?
