Default OT: Cayman GT4

Okay--since we're all waiting for our call and the long awaited time schedule for reunion with or initial delivery of our GT3s, I thought this might be an interesting read (and give us something to talk about in the meantime...).

A Cayman GT4 (second paragraph from the bottom)? If it has the PDK-S and around 400+hp, I really wonder how it can possibly NOT overlap with the GT3. Thoughts?

I would buy this in a heartbeat. Mid-engine, lighter than GT3(smaller car). PDK-S.
If they make it naturally aspirated and at least 400hp, I'm in.

Sounds like a neat car but don't bet on it being lighter. The gist of the MT article is that it could be 400HP from an inline HYBRID turbo four. That means electric motors, batteries, lots of complexity, and oh yeah, extra weight......

The other article mentions a new 6 cylinder boxer bi-turbo making 400HP. Lots of speculation; I don't see Porsche stepping on the GT3 toes with a Cayman, but who knows...

the Cayman GT4 would most likely have the Carrera S engine or some new turbo/hybrid crap..
They will build it right before the facelift Cayman arrives inorder to dump the outgoing Cayman bodies...

I raced a Cayman.
Better
Faster
911 has no chance same running gear.

But
911 is easier, different, maybe more fun and challenging.

Still. cayman with GT3 running gear, I have to go Cayman for less money.

The Cayman/ Boxster platform won't be allowed to encroach on the base 911. Just opinion.

Just dump a 3.8L X51 powerkit into it.

That's what I did

There have been rumors for a while. We'll see what comes of them.

If it has 400+ hp, a manual transmission, and not a hybrid, I would seriously consider it...turbo 4 or wet sump 9A1 variant...either would be OK with me. Of course the ultimate would be a Cayman with the GT3 mill, and if it had a manual I would drop everything, get on that list, and sell the Gallardo tomorrow. But we all know that will never happen.

I can't see how the scenario that Motor Trend suggests could ever come to pass. $125k for a Cayman with 400hp and PDK-S?! It's way too close in price and performance to the GT3.

It makes more sense for it to be close to 400hp, stick, some aero and weight reduction. The stick will appeal to some--and will also help create a performance divide between the GT4 and the GT3. Also, by 2017, the GT3 would presumably be in 991.2 guise and likely have a power bump.

Naturally, no one knows anything and all of this is just for the sake of some good old fashioned speculation that has absolutely nothing to do with the timing of engine swaps for the GT3. ...so, is it May 9th yet?!?!

Put the 2.5l 5-cylinder turbo engine from the Audi TT-RS in there & it would be perfect! No hybrid or electric gizmos please. Where do I sign up?

Cool engine, but imo there is a big preference with staying with a Flat engine layout (either Flat-6 or turbo Flat-4) for the 981 or 991...

All of the articles are just referencing a single MT article. Seems like a lot of speculation at this point.

Agreed. And a lot of that MT speculation doesn't even make sense within context (cut weight, but have a hybrid system? $125k versus GT3 at $130k? Cayman overlapping / competing with 911?).
