Question Will 19" Wheels fit on the 991 GT3?

i know on the 991 chassis normally, the stock 19's are the "base" size because the rear control arms will not allow a 18" wheel to clear them.

obviously with some wheels the barrels are different, but curious if 20" is the minimum size to fit on a 991 GT3 or if 19" wheels "should" clear the control arms and such...

has anyone attempted this? brake fitment im not worried about as badpad can be ordered differently.. but concerned about control arm fitment especially taking into account the rear steering.

I'd bet money that 19's will be out pretty soon.

Forgeline is working on seeing if 19s will fit. I think they posted something in the Racing sub-forum.

As discussed in another thread, est8esq, a rennlist forum member was sending his car to Forgeline. I think the car was due to be with Forgeline them this week. They are working on a 19" package.

i was going to do HRE P40, it's a monoblock wheel.. so the inside should be roomy versus a multipiece... just concerned about control arms, and car is not in yet.

So, I for one am tired of the recall and death of GT3's.

Thought it beneficial to bring this thread back to the forefront for WHEN (not if) these cars up back running and adding "kills" on track.

I'm waiting on 19"s being built and looking forward to running at VIR in a few weeks.

There's apparently a slight adjustment to a brake line that needs to be made and has nothing to do w/ the mount in the back.

In the official-track-wheel-and-tire-thread there is discussoin that suggests that there is no current track focused 19" tire with an appropriate sidewall height to restore the front and rear wheel/tire diameter to stock on the 991 GT3.

What tire do you intend to run on your new 19" wheels?

Yes, this is true from what I've been told too.

Currently, the Hoosier R6' places the overall diameter at .75" shorter than OEM. However, it's my understanding that as long as both front and rear are same dimensions the only effect it will have on the car will be my speedometer (confirmed by my own tech). Being that I'm installing data acquisition recording speed by GPS, this won't matter to me.

I just ordered two sets of 20" Trofeo's from Woodman at about $2500 a set??? I'll be saving about $1000 per set AND getting better performance... makes this a no brainer for me.

The Tire Rack has the MPSC2's in OEM sizes for $2150 for a set. How are you saving $1000 with the Trofeo's at $2500 a set? Sorry if I'm missing something....

Mike,

I think he means 19" hoosiers at ~$1500 per set vs Trofeos at ~$2500 per set.

So the multiple question marks after the "$2500 a set" were sarcastic....ok now I get it....thanks Ryan.

The closest R6 tires in 19" are 265/35ZR19 and 325/30ZR19 with 26.1" and 26.8" ODs, respectively. The front to rear ratio is not a perfect match, since the OE tires are 26.8/27.2"; however, I don't know that the 991 will be sensitive to this like the 997. It may or may not. Your rake will change though, and you may or may not require a rear ride height adjustments to counter the effects.

At the end of the day, Porsche does not permit "slicks." You don't have to follow this, but the implications in an incident go beyond voiding your warranty, including personal liability. Whether the R6 is considered a "slick" or not, I'm not sure.

There is similar language in the owner's manual, but here's an excerpt from Porsche's Dealer Aftersales Training Brochure:

"The use of slick tires is not permitted because of the possible higher stresses for chassis and body components. The use of wheels of different sizes (rim width, rim offset, etc.) compared to standard wheels results in a change in the effective dis- turbing force lever, for example. Widening of the track as a result of a lower rim off- set on the front axle, in particular, can clearly impair vehicle handling and can signifi- cantly affect driving performance at high speeds. The use of such wheels is there- fore not permitted."

Just got the 19" wheels in from Forgeline. Was hoping to be able to run at VIR this weekend.

Forgeline, thanks for keeping your promise. You delivered as promised. Unfortunately, I have NO car to put these on for now, but they do LOOK GREAT!!!!!!

Will keep you all posted.
