It really depends on the car. Hey, an RS is an RS!

Do you own your GT cars out of warranty?
Thought I would see how you guys feel about owning time bombs...cough...GT cars out of warranty. Do you tend to look for the exits before your warranty expires, or do you just roll the dice?

I bought my 2007 GT3 RS in 2009 with just the original factory warranty on the car (not CPO).
Can't remember how long it has been since the warranty expired, but the car has been very reliable during that entire time.
That doesn't mean cheap, I'm dumped a lot of money into it for consumables and upgrades, but other than the clutch going out on my while I was on the track, nothing that a warranty would have covered (and I doubt a warranty would have covered a clutch that went out on the track)

I do not view my GT3 as a time bomb. My 2004 has one of the best engines Porsche has ever made, no electronic nannies other than ABS, and a transmission that allows for a swap of gears and is renewable as are parts of the engine that wear out. I have a great mechanic that understands these cars at I do not worry at all about my car sans warranty.

Bought my 04 gt3 in 2009 with no warranty and just sold it after 7.5 years of breathtaking fun in preparation for my 991.2 gt3. Without a doubt the best car I've ever owned. Only failure besides consumables was an alternator that was cheaper than our Toyota to replace. I intend to keep the new gt3 a very long time.

I have a 12 year old AMG and a 9 year old BMW, both well beyond their warranty, so I tend to keep my cars a long time. For my GT3, I've already extended the Porsche warranty to 7 years. If I plan to keep the car beyond that, I will likely extend it as long as they let me. Replacement parts (such as an engine, LOL) and labour costs are not cheap for a GT3!!

Don't own a GT Porsche but have driven a 997S out of warranty for almost 8 years - came to me with 10,038 miles now has 93,700 miles. It's been good to me for the most part - the first 70,000 miles it was just oil changes and spark plugs etc. A little more expensive in the last 20,000 miles (AOS/RMS/Waterpump etc.) All expected.
