Let's not get too worked up about this yet. We all know the sharks are already circling around looking for prey.

Let's take in the announcement first. One course at a time.

2 years, as the 991.1 would have been but for the stop sale; recall that the RS was originally to be launched at Geneva 2014 but was delayed a full year

992 Carrera could arrive as soon as Paris show (ie, fall of 2018, 18 months from now); 991.2 launch was fall 2015

Global environmental and fuel economy regulations are changing quickly and the competition are busy galloping forward

Addition of MT gives PAG the opportunity to increase the production run of .2 GT3s since everyone of them will be sold, especially if the current stock market levels hold. I would expect nicely equipped cars will push the current RS MSRP.

Big question, as others have noted, is the lack of info on RPM. Also another question is whether rev limiter will be the same for MT and PDK equipped car. Unless the gearing of the MT and PDK are signidicantly different I do not comprehend the big difference in 0-62 times. Maybe different limiter levels explains a big chunk of the difference in quoted times to 0-62.

I think this car will be a gold mine for Porsche. It seems to have minimal improvements over the .1 and the development costs for the tranny as well as the engine have already been absorbed by the R and the RS.

Bring them on!
Lack of sophisticated launch control?

The press release refers to the engine as 'new' twice. I suppose that could be in reference to the 991.1 GT3's 3.8; if same as the outgoing RS 4.0 then a poor spin considering the RS's 4.0 is two years old now. And historically the engines have not handed down directly RS -> GT3. Also the 1 torque difference is odd.

Alan I suspect the 1 torque difference is a rounding error. Just like we will be told teh engine is 495PS not 500 bhp as this is how the Europeans quote it.

As most will imagine Im very curious about the engine. Apart from saying its "new" (which it is in the most obtuse sense of the word) I still have my suspicions this is the "G6" engine being used in the latest 911R/RS (i.e. DLC coated cams). Hopefully there are further revisions, I guess we will know very shortly...

Usually when they mention "NEW", they usually mean compared to the current outgoing .1 GT3 model.

Not "NEW" as in never seen before.

Car and driver, which does quality reproducible instrumented tests. gave a 3.0 sec 0-60 time for both the 991 GT3 and RS, though the RS did the standing quarter mile in 11.1 second vs 11.2 for the GT3.

I expect the 991.2 GT3 to be just under 3.0 in 0-60 time with PDK-S

Obviously Porsche conservative 0-60 figures mean nothing as we all know.

Is there a center-lock delete option?

That is awesome.

I have two questions 1) what is redline and 2) when can I place my order?

I'll be getting PDK.

Awesome news! I was refreshing this forum all morning at work then lost track of time after lunch. Just got home and read the press release. Thank you Porsche, exactly what I was looking for 4.0L, 500hp, most importantly 6 speed manual!!!!! I'm so excited I might not be able to sleep tonight!

We shall see RE: the engine. Given the references to the racing models, I have a hard time believing it is identical to the RS 4.0.

Interesting that Porsche is quoting the MT version at 95 lbs more than the R. Assuming lightest configuration for each, that would mean 95 lbs for Mg roof, CF fenders, PCM, AC, and presumably SMF.
