Speculative but does make sense. I think the manufacturers definitely think PDK and other autos expand the addressable market.

Don't get the hating on either side. These polls have consistently come in around 50/50, making it clear that dropping the manual option in the GT3 was short-sighted. Thankfully Porsche are smart business people and have moved to correct the situation ASAP.

Hats off to all the manual and PDK lovers out there. Let's try to coexist.

The great part is that you don't have to have the muzzleloader and I don't have to have the PDK-S. Having a choice is great - I'm not going to ridicule your choice and you don't have to ridicule mine (unless you feel compelled to for some reason).

Speccing pdk doesn't make anyone less of an " enthusiast ",nobody is disputing that. Manual is more fun,it's as simple as that. And we mostly buy these for fun(at least I hope so),no matter the environment we drive them in. Otherwise we'd all be driving SUVs,sedans and minivans.

As to which transmission is faster,we know the answer to that. I'm looking forward to the official numbers, which I suspect(as usual) will be conservative. And in the hands of a capable driver a manual will be very very close.

I am sorry if I disrespected you. It was not my intention.

Exactly. As long as you get the car you want, spec'd the way you want it, that's all that matters. Both the auto and manual have their pluses and minuses. No right or wrong answer.

What's clear is there is demand for both and clearly Porsche can make both. So all is good.

you certainly can't go wrong with either. I used to think I would go PDK for sure (love the sounds, feel, speed, and instant gratification), but after experiencing how good the manual is in the GT4, I'm currently leaning toward the 6MT and voted accordingly.

will be the toughest decision I hopefully have the privilege to make.

my guess is the take-rate on the manual ends up being 35% of all customer spec'd cars (which presumably will be all cars given the likely demand).

For the track, PDK all the way. For the road, maybe manual, but I wouldn't buy a 991 GT3 or RS for mainly road use.

Agree with others it's great that we get a choice this next go around. For me I voted for the 6MT since it will likely be the only MT car I will own in the near future. I race a manual so I need a road car to keep my skills sharp, and I don't track my GT cars due to my racing activities.

If I planned to track the GT3, then PDK no question. IMHO a manual race or track car is a liability- both in terms of speed and in terms of chances for damage (missed shifts, overrevs etc.).

I want to agree with you, and sometimes I would laugh maniacally to myself while running through the gears in the hills in my 981 Spyder, but every time I rail my PDK Carrera through the same mountain roads I change my mind and conclude the car is more fun with the PDK, because I can be so much more precise and I can't hit all my marks so much better and expand the performance envelope of the car that's available to me. And it makes me feel like Lewis Hamilton. Then I'd get back in the Spyder and fall back in love with the manual. They're both awesome and they're both big fun in a very different way.
