Am I crazy-Drove my old 997 GT3!

I really don't get the point of these threads, of course the new cars will be improved. Why not just appreciate them for what they are? Won't be long and the 991RS and GT4 will feel antiquated. Progress, etc.

While my 997 isn't a GT car, the difference in the chassis feel are night and day. Totally agree that the 991 feels lightyears ahead. The 997 is much more nervous and is flustered much, much easier than the 991. The 997 very much feels like the older Porsches of yore, while the 991 seems like the first of a whole new feel for Porsche. It is fun to have both as they contrast each other so much.

You guys are all insane. Of course the latest one is better. Porsche marketing said so.
No way in hell I'd give up my 997 for a 991 GT, or RS. .2 we'll have to see. 991 refined, fast as hell, yes. Still no connect to my soul though. The car feels synthetic. But the 991RS came close. GT4, nope. But I'm an idiot, I have more $ in my 964 when done than 991GT and like driving around a G body that a Honda Civic will take stop light to stop light.

It's all about budget, I wish I would feel comfortable tracking a 991rs PTS or my 4.0! But I don't. Great for those that do.
To me the fun ends at roughly $75k. We all have our mental limits. Some here are very comfortable tracking a $300k car and leaving it at the track. For some it's enough of a thrill to take their 991gt3/RS to cars & coffee and be happy with that. Nothing wrong with that!

Had 997.2RS and sold it in Dec and got a 991.1 Turbo S. Within a couple of months missed my RS so I picked up another 7.2RS. Just recently drove the 991 RS and as amazing as it was I still prefer the 7.2RS......7.2RS is a keeper.

had a GT4 sold it for a 991RS
in any way a better car. faster. but not more funny.
entertainment still on the same level based on way more involving engine and the looks compared to the GT4.
sold the 991RS days ago for a 997.2RS
lets see. drove just 300km till now.
its in every suspect a poorer car. but perfection, comfy driving, fastest laptimes is not what i'm searching. i do search emotion and satisfaction. and here i think a 997 RS is the best from both. (GT4 and 991RS)

GT4 is good looking car - but the engine is not special. Wish Porsche motorsport would have developed the engine

After 9 Porsche purchases over past 30 years, I've finally found the ultimate street car. 981 Spyder. This thing is outrageous fun. I took it to Sebring once. Yes it is faster than my track prepped 986 S...in the straights. But beyond that, meh. I'll take a race prepped car any day of the week over any street car for track use.

The 991gt3/RS is the best compromise between track car/DD on the market. This is IMO a strength and a weakness. There is definitely room in the line up for a more extreme street legal race car.

991 is the faster and better car than 997...but the 997 is the more rewarding, emotive, and ultimately better 911 RS.
I've own(ed) all the significant 911's from 69' onward...and I've driven all, save for some truly rare examples. The 997.2 RS (RS 4.0 in particular) is the zenith of that 911 evolution since the 964.
The 991 is a totally different car...one that I'd be hard pressed not to go the Ferrari route if one day I decide that type of car is needed in my garage.
Frankly, I really tried to like the 991 and have had quite a bit of seat time in a GT3. It just didn't get under my skin the way the 997 cars do.
As for track use...none of these are race cars, so I don't care. I'll leave the DE championship to those more qualified.
