But I just sold my basically CUP + spec 964RSA as I won't drive it ..
My finest moments in a 911 was in a 79 SC. Belonged to a very close friends of mine. Perfectly tuned suspension / higher compression motor rebuilt. When i drove that baby, it was like a kid playing with "hot-wheels" toy car. Did everything i told it, laugh like an insane person, 1 wheel lock up in off camber turns going into a hairpin with the perfect slip stream-- just enough power that you had to perfectly time it to stay flat on the gas or else you spin looking like an idiot. After 30-45 minutes driving flat out drench in sweat like i ran a marathon but with a smile ear to hear.
Unfortunately, i was broke ( still in college) when he was selling (he moved to NYC) it a years back - he sold it to some Austrian that is now rally racing it. :/
To bad SC's are 40k now + all the work he put in. ( 15k then)

p.s. every time i hang out w/ him he kicks himself over and over for selling it. Still keeps touch with the person he sold it. His family was the original owner. Which reminds me of the other car i love that a friend has. Original owner that ordered from MB in late 82, slow as snails, no amenities like today. W123 240 D, in manual. 80k miles, looks like new. Of course everyone on this board will tell me i'm on LCD and should just be happy with a S65 AMG...

writing this post, it's hitting me home more and more that id love to own all these cars but living in the SFBA, is a PITA with living cost. I need to get out of here.

My now sold '83SC is probably much nicer driving then that one.
It's fun to race but like you said so much work. Guess I'm getting old and lazy having my fun and eat it too :-)

My CL65 was the best road car I ever owned but on track the MPH RPM and TEMP gauge went up equally out of the corners LOL

The 240D will run forever. My parents owned a load of them.
My 6.9 is still in Vegas :-)

I want a 964. Or better a Jewish version of a Singer with a long hood throwback and 964 running gear.

That's right, right now shopping for a S550 for those times you need a hot stone massage.. Lol. Ram platinum for Towing and, RS for track and 6.9 for when I miss my rotary phone hehe.

I raced an W140 500SE ones in lemons. We won. I learned to drive in w126 420SE and W140 400SE. Too bad MB doesn't sell short week base here. SEL just too long..

6.9 is on the way back to Mooty..
I think nostalgia is best enjoyed in luxury.
Always wanted a 6.3 I'm working my way back in time until a w111 280se 3.5 coupe.

Clunky, not terrible.
But always funny how quickly we adapt to cars. Drive the 996 enough and the 4.0 feels like a Caddy....

Man I thought the sentiment would be the other way

How about 997 GT3 vs a 991.1 S with all the right options. I've been saving up for a 997 GT3, but it seems I should consider cross shopping.

991 GT3 is more comfortable, a little bit faster but effortless to go fast, is this really what a drivers car should be...?

997 GT3 need more driver skills/inputs, gives better "driving" experience in a far more rewarding way.
Motorsport Engine, manual and better future resale value in my opinion.

There is something really special about the .1RS!

With a GMG bypass and some minor suspension mods its a great car.

This thread makes me happy I chose my 991 RS over 997 RS.

Trick now is not to read threads in 997GT3 forum. Then I'll be sad again.

991gt3/RS and gt4 are so much better around town/dd and at their absolute limit. 997 is awful around town and its clunkiness, compared to the newer platforms, starts to wear on you. And the 997 is so much harder to master at its limits. But, a 997 is so much more enjoyable everywhere in between. I find the 991 and gt4 too "easy" to be fun if not at-the-limit or in dd mode, compared to 997.

So, if you have the means and space, the new, old and really old platforms all have their sweet spots. None are a substitute for the other. And all are enjoyable.
