No 991.2 GT3 and the new 991.2 GT2
Hello everyone, just returned from my dealer. Which told me that there is not going to be a 991.2 GT3, can anyone else confirm this?
Also stated that to get your name on the list for the 2018 991.2 GT2/RS you have to put down a refundable deposit of about $15,000 and doesn't have any details about the vehicle including whether its going to be a PDK or Manual vehicle.
My questions to those in the know; is there going to be a 991.2 GT3 and do any of those in the know have any details about the 991.2 GT2/RS
Thanks,
SNB

My position is: most dealers are full of ****. Most are NOT car enthusiasts and are only in it for the doremi. As a rule, I don't believe 1/8 of what they say.
Tell him you'll give him the $15,000 contingent upon it being deposited in an interest bearing account in which you are the beneficiary and sole decision maker of how and when the funds are invested.

I have now asked 3 dealers in Europe, including one of the largest in Germany, if there is going to be a new GT3, and if so when. All have told me that they do not know when, or even if, there will be a 991.2 GT3.
But one did say that they had recently been asked to order a supply of model Porsches for the Porsche shop. In that order, they had to nominate the number of 991.2 GT3s they wanted to order for supply late this year for 2017.

If I was a dealer, I would also try very hard to convince you there are no more GT cars. EVER! And I would try very very very hard to convince you of a million dollar refundable deposit to secure your allocation. Of course what I wouldn't tell is that I need your million dollars to increase cash flow in my company interest free. Gladly though, I'm not that Porsche dealership.

Its a frustrating situation as I am looking to buy my first sports car and am very adamant that it is a Porsche GT car. Not sure if I should put down a deposit towards the 991.2 GT2 or put that money towards another vehicle.

I agree its a stupid and ruthless way of doing business but then again there are those who are willing to put up that $15,000 deposit and if the orders stack up all I can do is wait for Porsche Rennsport to build something else and the same method will be used by the dealer. Also as I am from a very small country there is a singular dealer for each manufacturer and therefore they have formed a monopoly on each manufacturer

You're asking them to put you on a list that would give you priority over other customers to buy a limited production car. For that, they expect commitment from you, in the form of some skin in the game. Because, you know, some customers talk a big game but then tend to flake when the rubber hits the road and the full bill comes due.
Don't like the terms they're offering, don't pay. Someone else probably will, because the lost interest is totally immaterial and a small price to pay to secure a spot.

You honestly think that's their motivation? To get interest free $15,000 loans from potential customers in order to improve cash flow?

I know you believe dealers are infallible in most of these matters, but requiring a $15,000 deposit on a theoretical car is just stupid. The money is refundable, there is no skin - just inconvenience. It's not as if a dealer will have trouble moving these cars.
And I do not believe that a dealer would be able to refuse refund on a deposit for a car that doesn't even exist.
EDIT: Another thing -- this reeks of whipping up speculative frenzy. I'm sure people will think it's just good business to drive up the market, but it just perpetuates an adversarial relationship between enthusiasts and the dealers/Porsche. In my opinion, I think it's pathetic.

They will make 2017rs to keep up with demand. And make 500-600 R, also 2017 model. Then launch 2018 991.2 gt3 in Geneva 2017. Not sure when gt2 will happen????
Edit,
Looks unlikely but I still hope they will build my ACR killer "RS cup edition" that shines on track and sucks on the road. If a 991cup is 2 seconds faster at Laguna than the ACR I think AP can make the RS "CE" competitive even with its lesser HP.
Would be the perfect wingman to the R at Geneva auto show.
