It is rather common with yellow flag situations on the Nürburgring and the last thing you want to do is take your eyes of the track in such a situation. Turning the hazard light on can help both me and cars coming from behind avoiding trouble so I want to be able to find the button as fast and easy as possible.
It is worse in a full face helmet but even in a open helmet it is difficult to find that buttom - at least for me...

Finally the hibernation is over.
Been at the Ring for a couple of days.
Did my first race ever and it went well. My ambition with race was kind of low: make it over the finish line.
Me and friend shared car: A BMW 325 E90 Weight: 1368kg, Engine: Standard, Brakes: Standard, Tires: Slicks
It is rather long story involving getting a German Racing License the day before the race and our original car sold by the team who promised us "Yes, we have a car for you, no problem!"
The race is called RCN and is mix of regularity and race. There is normal 8 RCN's per season. And a special 3h RCN as the last year that follows the VLN format.
147 cars started, 37 did not finish.
The range of cars is from Seats, VW Polos all the way to 991 GT3 CUP's.
The race takes about 2.5-3 hours and you drive for 15 laps.
The format of the race is something like this:
Lap 1 Set regularity time (A slow time like 11 minutes)
Lap 2 Sprint lap: Full attack
Lap 3 Sprint lap: Full attack
Lap 4 Sprint lap: Full attack
Lap 5 Sprint lap: Full attack
Lap 6 Sprint lap: Full attack
Lap 7 Regularity lap: Be withing +/- 10 seconds of lap 1.
Lap 8 Cool down lap
Pits for driver change and fill up petrol
Lap 9 Cool up lap
Lap 10 Regularity lap: Be withing +/- 10 seconds of lap 1.
Lap 11 Sprint lap: Full attack
Lap 12 Sprint lap: Full attack
Lap 13 Sprint lap: Full attack
Lap 14 Sprint lap: Full attack
Lap 15 Cool down lap
On sidenote: You are allowed to have passenger in the car. Some drivers put Pro drivers in the passenger seat to get coaching.
You win if you drive fastest and within the regularity margin.
You compete within your class. Our class was the largest with 17 cars.
We missed the regularity time with 6 and 7 seconds. We ended up on 10 out of 17 cars in our class which we where not so happy about but considering the vast preparations before the race we must be happy:
I never driven a BMW on track, never been on slicks, never driven this car at all. We bought a stopwatch 1h before the race. Co driver sat in the car for the first time 3h before race - but he's got a lot more experience since he drove a car in the same class in lasts years RCN.
Our baby
Some of the cars in our class
It rain everywhere but not at the Ring (for once)
The pits: this is the old pits called T13, it is here that the Industrial pool pits there cars during testing.
Misc cars pitting
Misc cars pitting
Even a tired old Beemer can jump
We to the left and competitor to the right

Winner in our class pulled of a 8.16 so the statement above seems to be true.
In comparison I did a 7.55 (Approximated full lap, 7.35 BTG) in tourist traffic with my 991 RS on MPSC street tires.
Fastest car what I could see was a 991 GT3 Cup which did 7.12.
You are not allowed to go faster than 7.05.
There where a lot of yellow flags and even code 60 (Max speed 60 kmph) which of course makes it difficult do a good laptime.
It is a very good way to compete in that the cars are spread out all over the track so there is not so much bumper-bumper driving. You actually don't know if your competitor is on the same lap as you - you don't need to be the first to cross the finish line to win.

Thanks for sharing your experience Kobalt. Can't wait to meet you at the ring again this year.
My track car will soon be in a container to Europe for the summer. Will be more fun than the Clio cup rental. ğŸ‘
