Keep an eye on the comments that come out of Geneva and NY Auto Show. McLaren know they need to build out the dealer network to make P13 (Sports Series) a success. I'm hoping that the expansion plans will be detailed along with the P13 unveil at the NY Auto Show... Maybe it comes early at Geneva as that is a bigger stage for McLaren, but my bet is out of NY as there will be less competition for eyeball-time.

Yup, that's confirmed by McLaren. P13 will break cover at the NY Auto Show this April. That's what I was trying to say in my last post but it may not have been very clear!

I agree with you 100%. If I didn't have a dealer where I live, I would not buy one either.

541 hp/ton: Looks like it will be the performance king at its price (whatever that will be).

If you paid $350,000 or whatever for a 650S last year, how pissed would you be right now that a 675 is already out? And how could you trust them not to turn around and offer a 700 next year?

A no options 650s is about $265k. I assume the 675 will be around $350k and no options will be needed, except to add back AC free of charge.

Pricing more like 400k usd from what I understand (they aren't making very many of them). Impressive figures but I'm a bit disappointed with the "long tail" looks - to my eye the back end looks basically the same as a 650.

Not being a hater, but McLaren is failing hard. This plan of using one engine/one platform for 10's of different cars and price points is not appealing.. And their designs are just not beautiful the way the need to be for that "must have" feeling. Maybe their upcoming less expensive offering will end up being the most attractive of all… Having a lot of the technology of its older brothers, carbon chassis etc at a lower price point… but at these prices there is so much more on offer from competitors

I disagree with you on this. First of all, Mclaren has a carbon fiber tub which no once else offers at this price point excluding the Alfa 4C. This puts their product ahead of any other in regards to the chassis. If I were running a business model I would do the same as Mclaren is by utilizing one chassis and expanding the range. Look at what porsche has done with the 911 in 50 plus years. A model for every niche they can think of. In terms of appearance, that is certainly subjective and I won't argue on that. I think Mclarens biggest problem is name recognition which in turns leads to poor resale values. It's difficult to compete in this market with well established brands like Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini.

You mean like Porsche and the 911?

I think that is where they to got the idea from tbh, it's a tough act to follow.

Agree
Go sit in and drive a 650 - it's a pretty special experience and, to me, on par with other cars in the price range. It's easy to do this as the dealers are really trying to push brand awareness. My only comment was I think it's a reach to name this car a long tail - I was expecting something a bit more extreme.

Agreed. The design has improved much from the 12C, but the back of the car is still busy or just plain ugly and the pricing is too aggressive, hence the rapid depreciation.

Even this limited edition probably depreciates at the same rate because of the pricing and the lack of differentiation. The only sensible way to buy one of these things is massively discounted in the pre-owned market it seems.

Agree - I was hoping for something akin to the RS in terms of more track focused vs street.
