Default Akrapovic Sports Cup Line Exhaust

Starting to look into the exhaust options while I wait for my car and always been a fan of Akrapovic products. Only issue I have with them is often the price...

Anyone heard one of their new GT3 exhausts? Claimed 46 lb weight saving is very interesting.

The Akrapovič Sports Cup exhaust system is based on the Porsche Sports Cup rules, which state that the original exhaust manifold with integrated catalytic convertors must be retained. We therefore developed a performance and weight-optimized titanium end muffler with appropriate link pipes as the connecting piece to the manifold. This kind of construction reduces the weight dramatically in comparison to the original exhaust system. The weight distribution of the vehicle is improved considerably because of the weight reduction in the area behind the engine and the rear axle, which has an extremely positive effect on the handling. The look of this system with a deep racing sound is completed with a set of titanium tailpipes.

I'm a sucker for titanium and like the system shown but it leads me to two questions/comments:

1. On their other exhaust systems, they post specific power and torque gained. On this unit, they only mention the weight savings. Is this because they haven't tested it yet ( hard to believe) or are the gains (or even losses) not worth mentioning?

2. I assume they are removing one of the exhausts on each side, leaving a large void underneath. Is this going to cause airflow issues? Lift or drag?

Probably drone issues if no side mufflers.

It's Akrapovic. They make some of the highest quality exhausts in the industry. I'd be surprised if there were drone issues. As far as performance gains, I'd email and ask them.

I'm going to have my tech reach out next week, will see what they come back with.

I would also be very surprised if there are any drone issues.

Several 997 GT3 owners (including me) have the Akrapovic Sports Cup exhaust. It deletes side mufflers and replaces center muffler. You can get opinions on the 997 GT3 forum.

Polar charger what's your opinion of the exhaust? Sound level, type of pitch change compared to other exhaust?

Keepup,

My thoughts on Akrapovic 997.1 GT3 Sports Cup exhaust:
  • Drops legitimate 46 lbs. versus stock 997.1 GT3 exhaust.
  • Has limited impact on engine performance. I believe Akra's claim of a mild torque/HP increase above 3,300 RPM (and negative torque impact below 3,300).
  • Exhaust is louder than stock (w/ sport button on) below 5,000 RPM while perhaps quieter (as Akra claims) at highest RPMs.
  • Slight drone around 2,900 RPM.
  • While I like Akra sound, I personally prefer sound of SharkWerks/other central muffler delete pipe.

If weight reduction is your priority, Akrapovic Sports Cup (or other side delete option) is a good way to go. If sound is the priority, SharkWerks/other central delete may be a better option.

On aesthetics alone, their exhaust tips with that carbon piece is fantastic... Looking forward to hearing sound difference vs sharkwerks

I love my Akra on my M4. No drone at all and SO much lighter than stock. I can literally pick it up with one hand and walk around, and bear in mind on the M4, the Akra is around 6 feet long complete system with mufflers and resonators.

That company has some awesome products.

Indeed.

When I had my 991 C4S, and before the Akra was installed on it, we laid it on the ground just to gawk at the beauty. No weld scars on the joints, perfectly shiny, and light as a feather. Should really be in a museum somewhere.

Someone once told me that they had their own titanium manufacturing facility. Not sure if it's true, or not, but I wouldn't really doubt it.

It's what happens when you are a mega million dollar company ...
