Having been born and raised in Metro-Detroit, I naturally developed a love of everything automotive. This passion would eventually lead me to become an editor for WorldCarFans.com in early 2008. When I?m not writing articles about the latest developments in the automotive industry, I like working on cars, golfing, and spending time with my friends.

Did you note who posted the article? Maybe it's me but I have a problem believing any editor who can't proof their own bio.

I'm very curious about Geneva. Hopefully we will see something else next to the R.

911R and GT4 RS perhaps? Seems early to roll the GT2, but possible.

Gt4rs would be fun but feels unlikely. I guess we have to wait and see.
Still have a feeling we might see gt2! They could have done a lot of testing without us knowing. The RS has the side intakes and the new turbo as we know have been released.

Gentlemen-

I feel manual is so overrated. Not to stir up a litany of OLD comments, but I hope the manual stays relegated to history books.

I'm sure people miss the old two gear glide transmissions in '50's old cars as well as acrobatic "tail draggers" as VFR only airplanes in the same time period? But, GT3 cutting edge technology won't ever see manual ever again.:bang head:

I thought I'd keep this RS we had, but chances are it's being traded for the new GT3 coming up, whenever it is. Give me faster, safer, better technology and I'll take it all day long.

Are you open to choices in general?

There will never be a manual only GT3. It will be offered as an option along PDK. RS will be PDK only.

When 2017 is stated, that probably means 2018 model which sounds correct. The same was for the 2014 GT3.

They should go turbo then. If progress is all that matters, the NA motor is holding the GT3 back. The GT2 - if they ever do it, is going to change a lot of minds about the merits of 600hp and a low 7min ring time.

(But that said, I'll take manual NA all day long, and plan to buy a .2 with a manual if they offer it...assuming they fix the oiling issue on the MA175 and no other engine-gate chapters open up)

Dual clutch transmissions are cutting edge technology? You mean the same dual clutch transmission that was invented before WWII? Or the dual clutch transmission that was developed in the 80s? Perhaps you mean the dual clutch in the 991 GT3/RS that ZF was contracted to make for Porsche in 2003?

You don't like a manual transmission? That's fine. Some of us do. A transmission choice is a more responsible solution than hardline positions.

You want cutting edge technology? Install a seamless transmission that the current F1 cars are using. Perhaps a pneumatic sequential gearbox that all 991 track specific cars come with is too antiquated?

Actually, won't be long before the nut behind the wheel is the antiquated technology...

Its a fine line between advancing the technology to further driving enjoyment and involvement, without putting so many layers in between and muddying the sensations.

When done right, technology should be seamless and transparent...anticipating and guiding, not interfering and definitely not taking over.

Self driving cars are for commuters and people who treat cars like appliances.

Part of the appeal of the manual transmission is that you have to work hard at it to be good...and that is my reward...a perfect heel toe downshift, that synchronized ballet between my hands and feet with steering wheel, shifter and three pedals...

Heaven help us when Porsche comes up with Porsche Select Line Optimization

a random customer car with turbo wheels:

the car in the article is a test mule.
the article - maybe better not to read it.

a Level2 source told me two weeks ago: NO facelift for 991 GT3 or RS.
but SOME special editions will come for ending the 991 circle properly. on my question about 911R: no real comment - but in Genf we will see something. After this answer i didn´t ask further about the SOME other special editions...

we can see:
they want to imitate the 991.1GT3 DRL´s with the "L"-shaped stickers.

it is 95% a 991.1 GT3 - only the front bumper incl. front lip is another one + some sticked/screwed on cooling covers.

the middle cooling intake seems higher (more like a 997 GT2)

Why is more cooling needed?
Mabe because a 3.0l or 3.2l TT with around 500hp / 600nm sitting in the back which will come as 991.2 or 992 GT3?
(600nm (which would be 160nm more than the 991.1GT3) would improve laptimes heavily)

At the end i also don´t know what we see there but i guess it is just a test mule for the 2018 or later GT3-Engine (not car).

just for fun:
RS has Turbo intakes
this GT3 has already Turbo wheels
i do see ... that only mooty will be happy based on his wish.
