The DRL LEDs covered with mule black and white tape.
Clearly different front bumper.
Rear bumper doesn't necessarily need to be changed, unless you change hardware underneath(like plugging a couple of turbos to the engine). It hides the mule even better.
The rear badge is a nice touch to fool spotters.

All in all, remember this GT3 will be a 991.2 mid cycle refresh, not a new body 911,so look at the changes they have made in the 991.2,why would you expect the 991.2 GT3 to have more visual changes?
a) I think LB is the city code for Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg. I don't believe it's necessarily specific to test mules.
b) If an owner had run through a set of rear tires he might temporarily put his winter spares on, which are on a different set of wheels.
c) I'm not sure what's going on with the front spoiler and led's. Maybe it's a photo shop job as silverrules suggested or maybe the owner is doing something temporary after cobbling up his front spoiler. I've seen people do stranger things to their cars.
d) Put the actual model designation of the car you're trying to disguise on the back of the car you're trying to disguise? Interesting double fake but...

I'm not saying it's impossible that it's a mule, but aside from the pictures, the "article" otherwise offers nothing but speculation and no substantiated information. There are other explanations for those pictures that are just as likely. But don't let me interrupt the guessing about HP and gearbox for the new, to-be-announced-this-year, 991.2 GT3!

If this was the 991.2 GT3 wouldn't it have the same taillights as the new 991.2s?

I bet the "GT3" on the back is there to throw us off. The fake decal DRLs are classic factory camo. Wheels look like they're narrower offset. Wonder if it's an R?? It would be fairly easy to hide under a GT3 body and the wing would be a temporary stand in for a diffuser (to keep that away from prying eyes). That would be my guess.

Not an official mule; license plate does not begin with the factory codes they use.

Unless protocol has changed.

....except the article says it's a mule of the new GT3, to be announced as a 2017 later this year, not an R. If the pics are of an R in mule form, then everything else they said is wrong.

Whatever.......

I don't believe the text of the article. Most of what they describe as new is educated guesses based on the non-GT .2 cars. I think they needed a story to go with the photos.

There's no doubt it's a mule in my mind. The blacked out calliper so, LB number plate and mis matched wheels being clues. It's clearly a 991.1 given the door handles, rear lights etc.

The question is what is it a mule for? If it were for a driveline or engine then the standard protocol mid model evolution at OAG is drop those into an existing 991.1 and no need for camo stealth. For cosmetic changes that may have an effect on cooling etc ok there could be a need to test say a new bumper design...

As far as the report is concerned it's full of inaccuracies IMO including some of the details on the car claimed to be new but clearly not. As for launch as a my2017 and use of 3.8 I'm thinking highly unlikely from where I'm sitting...,

Also doubtful that we will see a 2017 gt3. That would mean launch at Geneva. More likely to see .2gt3 next year and sold as 2018.

I'm very curious about Geneva. Hopefully we will see something else next to the R.

No question at all that it is a factory test mule. I don't give a lot of credence to the text - author seems clueless about some things. No real news here... yet.
