Bahrain Open track 4/5 Feb 16
Hi all,
I arranged an "adventure" for myself. I live and work in Kuwait and wanted to attend a track day at the Bahrain International Circuit on 4 and 5 Feb. I managed to arrange transport for the car to Bahrain and arrived on Thursday lunch time. The track day started at 3:00pm. I arrived and was greeted by a Porsche feast. There was mine (991 GT3 Guards Red), a GT4, a GT2RS and a 997 GT3. All were red! The next day started at 3 again and a UV RS and another black GT2RS arrived for the session. It was epic!
I have very little track day experience, having done a few before with lower powered cars, so if you watch the YouTubes be gentle with me, I know I can improve both tracks somewhat after watching the GoPros. )
The first day was the so called inner track, which uses a section of the main track, including a reasonable straight. This inner track was very technical for me. I have attached a YouTube showing my attempts.
The second day was the GP track and this includes three long straights with low speed corners at the ends, and then the technical sections and additional straight of the inner track.
It was really a perfect trip as all the transport and travel was without incident, the weather was near on perfect and the track was in great shape. This was the first time I have been able to approach the limits of the car and I was really bowled over at how good it is. I mean its MUCH better than my talents could ever be.
I initially went out using the paddle shifts and mostly shifted up before 9000 rpm. I changed it to PDK sport which is clearly astonishingly good, but I preferred doing the shifts myself. Maybe next time I will give it a full go with PDK sport.
This is the best way to spend a weekend IMO.

ha,
Its between BD 2750 and BD 3800 depending on which day and which track/s you want to use. This is US$7250 to $10,000.
To participate in an open day it was BD 75 for a half session.

Never again make the mistake of driving on Saudi highways with such a car.. Pay the approximate of $1,500 round trip on a flatbed and save yourself the headache.. That's of course on top of a $500 air ticket for yourself.

ha,
I did truck the car to Bahrain through Saudi. I did have to drive it from my home in Kuwait to the Saudi border and this happened on this trip. The pic shows my car being loaded at the Saudi/Kuwait border.
You are right though, the road from Saudi to Bahrain is not the best.

BIC always amazes me. I'm glad you had fun.
Maybe next time you'd come to Losail?
Btw, I had the same incident when a huge rock went through the mesh in my 3. Luckily it didn't hit the bumper!
