For those GT3 RS owners with the *leather* steering wheel option...

That's great to hear. GT4 is my first Alcantara wheel, but was basing my comments on some of the ratty 997 GT3 Alcantara wheels I've seen.

Grant, You will never go back. I have seen the same but its mostly owner's/ detailer's damaging them while scrubbing the hell out of them. I never needed to clean mine. Just make sure your hands are clean while driving. Common sense stuff. Cheers and enjoy that beautiful GT4.

I do not think you can go wrong either way. I think if you track a lot Leather is the way to go.
Me personally, I only like leather not alcantara for the steering wheel but I prefer the leather-alcantara interior over all leather

If you're tracking it a lot you'll wear gloves anyhow, so that'll help protect the alcantara.

I've had a 997 GT3 and a 997.2 RS both with Alcantra, my 991 RS will be in leather. I found the alcantra wore badly and stained from sweat from my hands. I might be me but I find the alcantra is slippier than leather even with gloves and you get a better grip with leather. I think also that the leather wheel on the 991 RS is slightly thicker, but could be wrong. I'll know in Jan 2016 !

A little OT: my leather red thread wheel on my 3 is getting warranty replacement due to thread starting to unravel . approved yesterday and the only one in stock at factory.

I had Alcantara on my 997 turbo. Loved it. Replaced it after it became nasty with another Alcantara wheel. After that one got gross I switched to leather. Spec'd my GT3 RS w a leather wheel too. If you are willing to wear gloves Alcantara makes complete sense. If you just want to drive I would get leather.

I was working on a mustang the other day with a Alcantara wheel and it was so bad that it was hard(not fuzzy anymore) well I wanted to see if it would clean up. I used lacquer thinner(not sure I would recommend) but just after a little work had it feeling/looking like it was Alacatara again. It had me thinking if you just keep it clean it should hold up. I have used Sonax on my wheel but it wasn't showing dirt.

Plus One For Leather
My 997 turbo has Alcantera steering wheel and shifter, wish it was Carbon fiber/leather... Bought car with 6k miles, looked really good, now just hitting 10k miles looks a bit warn. Looks really cool but not durable (Im not that guy that is going to wear gloves to drive). Plus I hear its very pricey to replace. You will always be paranoid and will wash your hands before sitting in your car..
