This is the wheel I was referring to. Id doesnt have any screws I can see.

My tech speculates there will be an additional wiring loom that will clip in from behind the wheel and go behind the PCM. Wed already added the loom for Bluetooth microphones (I forgot t order with the car s had to add afterward). He said hed be surprised if PAG altered the main loom for this feature as he didn't think it was available for all cars. Im sure it couldnt be too hard to build a loom to take the wires from my transmission tunnel for these features and connect them t the steering wheel loom tat comes with this set up. Pure specualtion as it could be a mare...

1.) if the airbag is not working; there would be an error code.
2.) You don't need a dealer to install the wheel; it takes 10 minutes. Super simple. Just be sure to disconnect battery.

20" rear wheelS on RS with lower suspensions
Fun!

that wheel doesn't have the 12 oclock marker. Looks much cleaner without it. But how is that possible?

There's a chance if all of those buttons are just sitting on the CAN bus that they'll magically just work... maybe. But I don't think those "4 different modes" buttons would work since those modes don't exist on the GT3...

The bigger question in my mind is: are the PDK paddles the same short, crisp throw as the RS wheel? Could be. Or maybe they are differentiating the RS a bit... I wouldn't compromise the paddle feel for the buttons. The 991.2 Carrera section reads "The shift throw of the paddles has been reduced, gearshifts are even crisper." Could be relative to the 991.1 Carrera PDK levers and not the GT3, though. I wonder how easy it would be to accidentally hit those buttons on track...

And this "GT Sport" optional version with the screws is a smaller overall diameter:

Looks like the RS wheel is the same diameter as the sport (notice the edges of the plastic spokes vs. the edges of the finger grip curves):

On a related note, it looks like Porsche has the plastic air bag on some of their stock photos (you have to zoom way in):

Mech33. You are probably right. As I say was pure speculation between myself and the tech...

Good news: my leather RS wheel arrived this week! Feels great.

Bad news: Suncoast accidentally sent a regular GT3 air bag, not the RS air bag.

Good news: Suncoast has been awesome about getting the wrong airbag returned, and expediting the correct air bag order so I don't have to wait another 3-4 weeks for the RS airbag to arrive. Fingers crossed it comes soon!

Here it is, waiting patiently to install in the garage...

Leather RS wheel installed! The RS wheel and airbag are truly plug-and-play.

Laguna_Dude - thanks again for being the Guinea pig on this one! FYI, the steering wheel cap screw is a 12mm XZN triple-square, not a T55 Torx. A Torx might work, but you run the risk of stripping the threads if the screw is on their tight.

The red stripe is just the tape everyone recommends on here.

Well done!
And with that I think you got the short shift paddles too that everyone says are more involving.

The paddles do feel night and day crisper than the regular GT3 wheel...

Looks great man! Good for you! And thank you for figuring out the tool needed. I used a T55 and it worked fine; luckily I had no issues there. I will correct my DIY post. Cheers!
