Just read and article about this, the scene looks horrific. Sounds like he clipped the grass and lost it. Thankfully no reports of fatalities yet but some of the pics look gruesome.

Probably not a good idea to have spectators standing right next to the high speed portion of the runway without any fencing (not sure what that red thing was it crashed through but it didn't look like it had any strength to stop a car). I've seen runway events, spectators standby behind the start line.

In that case some concrete low level walls would be better.........
