Any one have any knowledge on Porsche capabilities of producing 700 new engines and still keeping the assembly line on new GT3's moving on schedule? I always understood that production was some what limited. Introducing this new production has to slow production on new orders.

I honestly think that they are having regional counsel comb through their "remedy" for liability / exposure based on each countries laws and legal environment. I would not be surprised if the US got a more structured and tiered compensation scheme.

And that may be part of the delay in sending out the info.

Anyone here have one of the early e46 M3's with the engine issue? Mine was after it was sorted and I recall that BMW extended the warranty on affected cars to 6 years / 100k. Was that worldwide (one remedy) or US only (regional remedy)?

Just curious. Not like precedents have to be followed...as exemplified by this fiasco. Or shall we call it for what it is? A total sh*t show.

Yep, I too had a 2001 BMW M3. Got a letting in the mail, informing me of the issue (I'd had no complaints), told to take it to the dealer for repair. I did, and the silver lining to my cloud (for being w/o the car for some time) was that the rebuilt engine had noticeably more grunt. Even one of my racing buddies, who'd driven it before said it felt stronger. I tracked that car a lot and on track at Laguna Seca, I could feel it had more speed going up hill from T5 to the corkscrew. And I got an extended warranty on the power train!

I kept that car until about a year ago. So, I never paid attention to the resale market in the first year or two after the rebuild. Does anyone remember if it helped or hurt the resale value?

I just think that if the onus is on all of us to negotiate our own packages from scratch, it will be utterly ridiculous, especially here in the US.

Just got the communication forwarded by my dealer from PCNA.

Fault: Connecting Rod Bolts.
Corrective Action: New Engines with New Bolts
Corrective Action Validation: Testing underway, but not yet complete
Timeline: Unknown, will advise after validation a specific workshop date for your car

Guess I'm now sitting in the best spot with a May production, my car should roll off the line with a good engine. Sorry guys.

My car was produced last week, still at the factory. Would be interesting to see if it has the updated engine or needs another one.

Stupid question which I have asked before.

What assurances do we have that the new engine is any better than the replaced engine? I know they are testing the new engine now but I am certain because all of the pressure coming from all quarters the test procedures have been truncated in order to resolve the situation ASAP.

As advised previously, engineers at Porsche AG have been conducting technical analysis of the Porsche 911 GT3 engine in order to find a solution to the problem which led us to recommend you stop driving your car.

This analysis is now completed, and we would like to inform you about the cause of the problem and the planned remedial actions.

As already communicated, two vehicles in Europe suffered engine damage, causing the vehicles to catch fire.

Analysis has revealed that in both cases the engine damage was caused by a loosened piston rod screw connection which damaged the crankcase. In order to avoid this in the future, an optimized screw connection is currently being tested. For the final validation of this solution, Porsche AG is currently carrying out extensive tests.

At Porsche we are rigorous when implementing an engineering solution, therefore, after the successful testing and validation we will be installing new engines with optimized piston rod screw connections in all 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 vehicles.

Due to the complexity of the necessary arrangement, we are currently unable to provide you with a specific workshop date for your Porsche 911 GT3. We will be arranging an appointment with you individually, as soon as the logistics planning is finalized. We will be providing you with additional information within the next three weeks.
