981 Spyder!!!!

Looks great. It looks very similar to the 987 Spyder which is great. That is a hefty price tag though. Not that my 987 Spyder is going anywhere, but 987 Sypder prices may not go down at all that much. I spec'd one out on the configurator close to my Spyder options.....It was $93,000.....lol

This is my opinion FWIW.
Porsche made a half hearted attempt at reducing the weight. They didn't eliminate the plastic trim on the door sill, the rear hatch uses heavier hinges (no cool aluminum holding brackets ) I guess reducing weight further would mean serious cost. Yes the top does eliminate the motors but that's really it, for all intents and purposes it's the same top with no insulation and additional wings.
Most of the focus is on the visual and engine, not much else sets it apart. The rear humps don't flow as well as the 987.2 Spyder, I think it may be due to the black trim piece they're using to hold the wings in place but it's hard to say until I see it in person. I do like and prefer the rear wing although again, no effort to remove the motors to further reduce th weight!
The window won't look right when it's up and the top is down. The lines just won't match up which is likely why we haven't seen any pictures with the windows up.
I almost wish Porsche didn't call it a Spyder since it really doesn't follow the definition "similar to roadster but with less weather protection". It will be interesting to see what the driving experience is like in comparison to the 987 Spyder.
As far as pricing, if I were in the market for a new Porsche I woul hands down pick the GT4 for a couple thousand more. It's at least true to it's name with exception to the non motorsport engine.
Again, my opinion.

Shocker... most of the 987 Spyder owners on this thread dislike the new Spyder. I'll reserve my judgement until I can get my eyes/hands on the car. The pictures look great, and they've made some tasteful/evolutionary improvements to the styling.

The new Spyder is a major fail for me especially when you take into account the higher MSRP. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Porsche for making my 987 Spyder more desirable and valuable today.

MSRP on my 987 Spyder was $66k. With the same options (sans sport shifter), the 981 would be $89k - a full 35% increase. Bold move of Porsche.

I was thinking the pricing of this is not good news for the GT4 guys wanting a car. The GT4 looks like the best deal in the entire Porsche line-up.

My 987 Spyder had an MSRP of $67,550 (full Red Carrera Leather & Bucket Seats). I paid $63,550. The new Spyder is approaching $93K with similar options. I would consider swapping my 987 for the new Spyder but Porsche would have SEND ME a check for $30K to make the deal.

vs a very different profile look/vibe in the 997.2 mostly due to the unique flatter extended side glass /bimini top enhancing the " chopped " look that is the signature of the 997.2 Spyder , not the humps. Porsche cheaped out this time and the resultant persistent rounded window /domed top completely negates any uniqueness of the buttress/humps .

Mine had a MSRP of 90.3 and I priced a new one and the number at the bottom was 120.1k.

IMO , the two most visually iconic Boxsters are the orig 1997-2002 986.1 models which hues to the orig curvy 1993 concept car inspired by the legendary 718 RSK and the 997.2 Spyder .

The big thing on the Spyder is that it fixed that awkward roofline on the 987 Boxster. That roofline is *the* reason why I never got a 987. On the 981, Porsche got the roofline right to begin with, so the Spyder doesn’t look that much improved.
