Does anyone think the basic seats are uncomfortable?
Hey Guys,
Since I have been driving my 2013 Boxster S I am a bit disappointed in the basic seats. I am wondering if it's me or if others find the basic seats uncomfortable on long trips, that is trips of 4 hours or more or any trips really.
I've been wondering if anyone has traded out or gone to a dismantler for the 14 way seats and put them in? And if so what would one expect to pay and who is a good dismantler to go to? Any in FL?
I am 5'-8" and 190. Not too wide with narrow hips - so I'm not sure if I just haven't found the right adjustment or if they just aren't that comfortable to others?
Thanks everyone,
Tim

I think you're smoking crack! I'm 6'4" 210lbs... The stock seats are plenty good. I'm now riding in 996 gt3 buckets... Hard core! And tis is my track/commuter car. Perhaps you need to buy a Mercedes not a Porsche? BTW, I drive 3-4 hrs each way to the track, and a few hours on track.... Sore ribs after a 2 day event, but hey, it's worth it. I personally am not looking for a "comfy" car.

Wow Cat, nice post, thanks for the wonderful insight and so very helpful too. Do you have a 981? The seats as I understand it are different in the 987, so maybe that's what you may have had. Don't know but I hope to hear from other 981 owners.
Thanks anyway

For me, the standard 'comfort seats' are the most uncomfortable in the Porsche lineup. The optional sport seats or sport adaptive seats are better. The carbon fiber sport bucket seats are the most comfortable - 5.5 hours is no problem.
I have the 14-way adjustable seats in the 981 Boxster. Not a fan. The basic sport seats or 18-way sport adaptive seats would be better. (I didn't order the car, so had no choice - would not buy one with standard seats again)

Not sure if the 14 way adjustable seats are considered standard, but I've done several 300 mile+ days. Some 250+ without stopping and I love them.
I particularly like being able to do very minor adjustments on the fly to ease pressure points. Then just press memory at the end of the day to get back to 'normal'.

The 981 std seats are completely new design from the 987-2 std seats. The 14 way seats add tilt control and a power thigh extender along with power lumbar support. Both my 12 Cayman and my 15 CS have the 14 way seats. After driving a demo back in 12 with the manual seats I wasn't going to buy the car but then tried the 14 way and couldn't believe the difference. I have long legs, 6' 3" tall, and the tilt control on the 14 ways made all the difference. I also have broad shoulders and couldn't get comfortable with the sport plus 18 ways. I know many people them, just not for me.

First of all , thanks to everyone that posted their comments, they confirms suspicions about the basic manual 3 way seats; that they are uncomfortable to several of you and that they are different from the 987.2 seats.
Has anyone ever gone to a dismantler for seats? Sounds like the 14 way seats would be an inprovement. I'm thinking of doing that to get the 14 ways?
Thanks,
Tim

Tim - we have a 981 with the standard seats, and had a 987 with sport seats. I found the comfort level to be about the same for long trips. The sport seats (as you would expect) were a bit more snug and felt better for spirited driving. The 981 seats feel "softer" to me. I have had both cars out for 8 hour drive days and could not recommend one seat over the other for comfort, so I am not sure you will be much more comfortable with the different seats. I am 6'1", 215 lbs with a 34" waist, so I am pretty snug in both versions. Probably best if you can find someone to drive with to get some seat time in the different versions before spending your money. Hope this was helpful...

I find the basic and full power 997/987 seats to be terrible. Big contrast from the 986/996, which I always loved. They have too much lumbar even with it full deflated, it kills my back over a long trip. I drove a 997 from NC to KS and cursed the seats for my entire trip.
