Default oCarbon.com - 981 carbon fiber project thread

Hey guys,

We've been doing a lot of random and custom 981 projects lately, so rather than clutter up the forum with a new thread every time we do something cool, I decided to keep a thread just for posting updates on what we're working on for the 981 chassis.

As always, if you see something you'd want done or have an idea for something creative, shoot me an email at matt@ocarbon.com and we'll see if we can work something out for you.

Up first is this custom set of interior trim done in a red reflections fabric. So far this is the first and only 991 set of trim we've done in this fabric, and we're also doing a few custom pieces like the door trim, the clock pod top, and the shift ****. We're only about halfway through it now (so it is still pretty lumpy), but I'll post more pics of the set as we progress on it.

This set is sold, but if someone else is interested in having a set made in this fabric, feel free to shoot me an email for a quote. We can also get this fabric in other colors, like green, blue, gold, silver, and copper.

Getting a little bit further along, the epoxy is a bit thicker now so you can see how much closer it is. Once this cures after some time in the oven we'll get all the excess trimmed off and start sanding it smooth.

We've also started on a similar set with a reflective silver thread. I'll post more pics as we work through it as well.

I'm making some progress on the silver reflection pieces. The red ones will be coming out of the oven soon and be prepped for clearcoat:

Getting close on this red set. The pieces got trimmed and sanded out:

And then shot with a few coats clear:

Few more pics. Now that these are all clearcoated, we'll get them wetsanded and polished and shipped. I'll take a few more pics in proper lighting before they go out the door.

In one of your threads here I believe you mentioned being able to do a satin finish rather than high gloss... If you have any of that red reflections fabric left would you be able to do up a sample piece and post some pics of it with the satin finish?

No, the material is pretty expensive and I can't waste it. It is going to look almost identical to this:

Cool, thanks for posting. I really like that satin look. The glossy look is good as well, I'm just averse to things that are shiny I guess.

Another custom set shipped, this one in a silver reflective material. It's a standard 2x2 twill carbon fiber with threads of silver running through it. You can check out some installed pics of it here.

A couple of people have asked if we can do the door trim. We can, but we need the pieces sent to us. These two will be wrapped up and shipped out shortly:

I'm very happy with how the door pieces turned out:

We just got started on our first set of 991 mirror caps. These are the standard mirror caps, and not the sport ones. I haven't seen the sport ones in person yet, but I believe we could do those as well.

These are done in a 20oz 2x2 twill, so they have a nice, thick, straight weave on them. I'll post more pics as we work through them, as right now they are only raw fiber.
