Default 255/35/20 on front of 981?

I was wondering if anybody has fit 255/35/20 on the front of their 981 cayman or boxster? Currently I am running 245/35/20 and 275/35/20, and looking to move to 255/35/20 and 285/35/20 to get more rubber to the ground for track days. I would be running a 8.5" et45 wheels.

Thanks

What 255/35-20 track tire are you buying? I haven't seen any of those yet.... Lots of people running 255 fronts on 18 and 19" rims on 986 and 987 models, though, so they should fit a 981 if you can find them.

Nitto makes an NT05 in 255/35/20, no 285/35 yet, but do have a 275/35

1) Wider tires do not automatically mean faster lap times.
2) NT05 are not good tires

I ran my 18" NT01 (245/40-18 front and 275/40-18 rear) setup from my 987 spyder on my friend's 981 GTS yesterday. Excellent combo.

Ah-I've never tried NT05s, but that's the first 255 track tire I've seen in 20". It's 10" wide overall and should fit a 981 in the front. It's a pretty tall tire at 26.97" dia., though. That's nearly 2" taller than the 255/35-18s I'm running, which are 25" dia. The 275/35-20 NT05 they list is taller, at 27.56", which would match up well enough with the 255 to maintain OEM F/R rolling ratios and not confuse the PSM, I think, but it's going to raise the car a bit from what you could get if you ran 18s. My 275/35-18 rears are only 25.6" tall. If you have an adjustable suspension then you can just lower the car to get the CG down, but that's an extra expense. A shorter tire in the rear helps acceleration by lowering the final drive ratio as well. Are you set on using 20" rims for the track? Unless you have the PCCB option and can't fit them, 18" (or even 19") rims will give you more tire choices.

TT
