Default Latest Paint-to-Sample Approved Colors List from PAG (as of July, 2014)

Matthew Henry of 'Porsche Exclusive' in the US has been kind enough to provide us with this latest list of PTS from PAG. The list has a new feature in that it identifies 'new' colors on the list - although that doesn't mean these colors were approved!

The PTS window is currently 'open' for orders on MY2015 models.

For more information on 'Custom Ordering a 981 & 'Porsche Exclusive' please check the thread below at the 981/987 Rennlist forum. It currently has nearly 28K views:

PS I have also attached the January 23, 2014 PTS list so that you can see the changes from that date to the present!

Walters always orders some cool PTS cars. A few years ago they had a stone grey cayman r with buckets. I really wanted it, but for a track car it was overkill. For about 30k less I got a cpo s. That is a lot of track parts!

You certainly will not be able to guess very well by looking at their photos (see attached). Two photos. Same car. Same brain-dead photographer*. Somewhere in Los Angeles, a neighborhood has lost it's idiot...and he is now gainfully employed at Walter's! They do need to hire better photographers to shoot their cars in inventory, especially the PTS examples!

PCNA should also improved their internal reporting systems to show the exact color (official name) and color code for dealer inventory of PTS vehicles. It's shameful we have to play these games at guessing what is the color a particular PTS Porsche in stock. Dealers might think it's cute since it will elicit calls. I say it's all BS since most dealers are ill-equipped to answer anything intelligent about PTS and these inquiries might create more frustration & disappointment than positive results. McKenna comes to mind with its alleged 'Signal Orange' 991...that might not be that color after all!

Eduardo,

great idea!

I was going to say something similar.
What a fail the Walter's ad is, tell us everything about the car except the one question everyone wants to know, what color is the bloody thing???

a few dealers have put the color at the end of the car specifications but I haven't seen many lately

cheers!

'Signal Orange' is a spectacular vintage color found on early 911's. Photo 1 & 2.

'Signal Yellow' is an equally spectacular vintage color 911 found on early 911's! Photo #3.

McKenna has a PTS 991 which they want to call 'Signal Orange' (photo #4) even though I told them 'Signal Orange' was not likely on the approved PTS color list.

So then Porsche confirms to me in writing the following:

"Hi Eduardo,

I hope this email finds you well and my apologies for the delay in getting
you this list!

Per your request, please see attached for the most up to date PTS list that
we have from Germany. As far as Signal Orange goes, that color is not
currently on our pre-approved list.
Should you have any other questions
please do not hesitate to ask.

Best Regards,

I am now waiting for the other shoe to drop at McKenna!

Default PTS List: When was it first published by PCNA?

Steve, maybe you should explain why you think Donovan is the reason we have that list now. I, for one, do not understand your meaning.

I honestly don't know if US Porsche dealers had anything like a list of approved PTS colors anytime before the 991 era. But it's very obvious that certain US dealers that had familiarity & experience with PTS were able to take advantage quickly of the two week self-imposed PTS window which PAG/PCNA set for MY2012 Boxster Spyder! Some of us lived through & documented those days right here on Rennlist!

Steve, you were the only customer able to order a PTS '12 Spyder. In your case, 'Speed Yellow'. Did your dealer show you an approved PTS list? Walter's ordered the 'Riviera Blue' '12 Spyder on spec. That was the one that eventually was purchased by Donovan. EuroClassics in Virginia ordered the 'Azure Blue' '12 Spyder on spec. That was purchased by someone in Oregon. And that is it...for '12 Spyders in the US!

Even if an official PTS list did not then exist, smart Porsche dealers (like some of us here at Rennlist) kept notes on PTS cars we saw being built by the factory in that period. Everyone knew that 'Speed Yellow' was being done in regular series production...so to get that approved was a pretty good bet! 'Riviera Blue' had been recently done by Porsche as a PTS on a European .2 997 gt3 press car which got fair amount of publicity...so most of us knew 'Riviera' could be done PTS too. 'Azure Blue' came to me out of left field...but 'EuroClassics had ordered that old pre-A 356 color before on a PTS for a client, so they knew it was probably available for the '12 Spyder. And that is how these three US '12 Spyders got their PTS!

Now to the 'NEW' PTS list as we now know it. The first I ever heard of an official PCNA PTS list came as a result of a June 2012 visit I made to Joe Brenner, GM of 'Porsche of Colorado Springs'. He handed me the list, which we thought at the time was 'confidential' information and not to be disclosed on the internet. Then, a week later, the same list was 'outed' by a member of 6speedonline named 'St.PatsDay'. He got it from 'Porsche of the Main Line' near Philadelphia.

http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...mple-list.html

I then checked back with Joe and got his permission to put the same PTS list out a month later on the first post (dated July 25th, 2012) of my thread 'Custom Ordering a 991/981, 'Porsche Exclusive' and You'.

https://rennlist.com/forums/991/7085...e-and-you.html

https://rennlist.com/forums/987-981-...e-and-you.html

And via this thread, me and other Rennlisters have kept the forum updated with the approved Paint-to-Sample colors as they become available to Porsche customers to order! This may have been the first PTS list ever compiled & distributed by PCNA. Has anyone seen one that pre-dates 6/2012?

But it's only after much hustling, and in some cases shoving, that the list is handed to one of us for publication! Knowing that the PTS window had open this spring for MY2015 991/981, I started pushing for an updated PTS list via my contacts. Finally, 'Porsche Exclusive' promised to send it after meetings I had with them at the PCA Parade in Monterey. Still, it took 2 weeks for it to arrive via email! In the meantime, I had contacted four Porsche dealers that in the past have ordered PTS and usually stay abreast of the 'Porsche Exclusive' program. I sent them all my 1/23/2014 PTS list, which was the last known to exist, and asked if they had an update. In each case, they replied that the list they were working with, and discussing with their clients who might be interested in PTS, was the same 1/23/2014 list we already had here at Rennlist! However, Melissa Witek confirmed to me two weeks ago that there has been at least two updates to that PTS list since 1/23/2014! Yet none of these Porsche dealers I contacted were aware of the updated list, which finally was sent to me a few days ago and which I published here recently!

This is a major failing of 'Porsche Exclusive' & PCNA's communication practices. These PTS list have to be disseminated to their dealers as soon as PCNA learns that new colors have been made available, put on feasibility study or declined. I only hope that with expected appointment of a NEW manager for 'Porsche Exclusive' in the United States soon, this department will market of their 'products' more effectively to both Porsche dealers & Porsche customers here in the United States!

Saludos,
Eduardo
