Default Cayman has class win at Daytona!

Congratulations to Napleton Racing for winning the new GX class at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in a Cayman!

Agreed, Congrats! Not a scratch on that car either. Great racing throughout! I was sucked in and logged 14 full hours of watching (good thing for DVRs).
Not knowing much about the class rules, I was really surprised that the Caymans with 3.8 motors run almost 10 seconds slower than the GT Class 911s. I thought the gap would be much smaller.

Just noticed that's Mark Donohue's kid. He must have been really young when his father died in F1.

David was 8 years old when his father died in Austria in August of 1975! He was born in 1967, so he is no spring chicken!

The Interseries Caymans were using '09/'10 Porsche Cayman S (approx. 3050 lbs with driver, 343 hp engine, StopTech brakes). I can't find exactly the specs for the motor they were using last weekend at the Rolex in Daytona. But the cup gt3's have superior power and a better chassis for the track & endurance racing, especially at the rear! This according to folks that have actively campaigned both models at the track (e.g. NJ-GT or Mooty). Both of these factors translate into a slower pace for the Caymans vs the gt3 Cup Cars.

Thanks for the info! You always hear so much about if the Boxster/Cayman had the same power as the 911 they would be faster, being mid-engined so I was surprised at the gap in lap times. I figured the GT3 Cup cars were up on power and there is years of research in 911 suspension but was really surprised at the difference (without knowing the class rules, of course).
