Spare Tire Question
#2
I have a 996 spare wheel for my 987S. I can confirm the skinny space saver 105/95/17 will fit the 987 front and rear hubs and can be carried under the front hood. The rolling radius is slightly smaller . The wheel I have as a space saver is part No 996.362.130.01 which is a 3.5" wide by 17" diameter with a full size tyre of 105/95/17. The offset is ET 19.
For the 987 (fitted with 19" wheels)
235.35.19 tyres = 323.55 rolling radius 2032.92 circumference
265.35.19 tyres = 334.05 rolling radius 2098.90 circumference
Porsche official space saver for 987/997
185.60.17 tyre = 326.9 rolling radius 2053.97 circumference
For the 997 (fitted with 19" and 295 rear tyres)
295.35.19 tyres = 344.55 rolling radius 2164.87 circumference
996 Space saver
105.95.17 tyre = 315.65 rolling radius 1984.09 circumference
For the 987 (fitted with 19" wheels)
235.35.19 tyres = 323.55 rolling radius 2032.92 circumference

This is good to know, since I hate not having any spare--my M3 has a full-size spare--which has been great for DEs when I scrub the rubber off of the LF tire's outside shouder (the E36 M3s tend toward understeer--mitigated a bit with same size 8.5 wides all around).

The space saver sits snugly under the front hood. Unless you plan to drive over bridges at speed and leave the road , the spare does not move around enough to cause any damage. The edge of the tyre rubs slightly on the options sticker so i've put some clear adhesive film over this to prevent it wearing. The only other thing to mention is that the spare should be fitted to the front rather than the rear and the PSM switched off to prevent alarms when driving. The space saver is slightly smaller in rolling radius than the front tyres , and a percentage smaller still , than the rears. To minimise the differences and prevent the PSM kicking in due to differing wheel speeds on the rear axle , put the front wheel on the rear and switch off the PSM , until the tyre can be fixed. You are limited to 50 KMPH on the spare anyway, so turning off the PSM should not be a real issue. The official 997/987 space saver has a rolling radius that sits between that of the OEM front and rear wheel sizes. A wheel jack and tool kit is available for the 996 spare wheel that sits inside the wheel hub on the spare , so creating a contained kit.

Transportiing damaged tire
That is a great fix. I would say that the only thing that is now of concern is where to put the damaged tire that is removed. I would imagine that it could be put in the passenger seat or on the lap of a passenger using a plastic bag to keep car and passenger clean. All in all, this is as good as it gets for the Boxster. Thanks...
