Post Tail Light Mod: 987

Hey guys, I have been thinking of ways to cosmetically modify my 2006 Cayman S. I saw some examples of owners putting what looked like 981 tail lights on their 987's. I did some digging and found what I think are the lights on eBay HERE.

Anyway, I guess what I am asking is: Have any of you changed out your tail lights for these (or something similar)? Were there issues? Failures or successes sound off, please!

Thanks.

I have a similar set on my 997 Twin Turbo. Some are crap...but there are good brands. Depo/Dectane are the ones to look for. They have appropriate resistors and IC's built in to avoid error lights.

I also put 50 watt/6 ohm resistors across the blinker wires and installed LED's on my Boxster S and they work great and look better (when blinking). Also put LEDs on front.

Good luck.

Thank you, DC! I will definitely make sure to check for those brands because I would really like to "spice" my car up, but I don't want something that's poor quality.

Oh, and that 997 is gorgeous, by the way.

I have been close to doing this mod several times on my 987.1 Boxster.

Around Los Angeles I see updated 997 quite often. Some of them look great and others look so-so. What has kept me off (apart from the $500 price tab) is that on several 9X7's I have seen broken/non lit LED's which really kills the purpose.

I would recommend reading some long term user reviews.

Meanwhile i did the (very cheap) 987.1 Boxster Spyder mod with red tape and I actually really like it.

Modded red plastic tint bought for a few $ on ebay.
