Default 3 reasons why a choose a Manual over a PDK

Just want to share these 3 must see videos; which convinced me to not only buy a 981S but also why i chose a Manual over the PDK.

1. The Chris Harris Video, A must see for anyone buying a 981S

2. The EVO review of the 981S

3. TheGetawayer - A brilliant review of the Cayman 981S

enjoy.

Michael

p.s. Although the PDK is great too with i think better gear ratios suited for public roads imo.

Harris pretty much nails it with the pedal placement. Negligence indeed. Can't heel toe as a result. Brake pedal is way too elevated compared to the accelerator. I still would take PDK over the manual if I could have that in my Spyder!

Me: " Honey, thinking about getting another Porsche what do you think? "
Wife:" Well we already have 2 why do you need another one?"
Me:" This one's an automatic"
Wife: " Oh cool so I can drive it !!!"
Me: " Just thinking of you babe"

^^^^^

My wife was a three times National Kart champ - she can out drive 99.9999% of men or women - and that includes me and I have held I class race licences.

Your post is out of date and offensive

That's AWESOME! However my wife falls in the above category maybe unfortunately. As such she refuses to drive the Spyder but all in all that may be more a boon than a drawback weirdly enough she learned how to drive with a stick....

Justification for PDK, first and foremost, for me it was 100% driven by physical limitations, when I was shopping the manuals were cheaper. However versus a manual box? I don't care how good you heel toe, you aren't going to come close to the dependable rifle bolt every shift dependability. Sure it's cheating but PDK makes everyone an Andretti in the gear change department. When manufacturers went to hydraulic clutches they lost their feel. Porsche isn't immune, many of the manual cars I have driven have clutches that grab too high / late. In heavy stop and go traffic, manual becomes a chore. Lastly, anyone who thinks the appearance of a manual stick is theft insurance is cuckoo. All that means is some future felon is going to tear up your transmission on the learning curve.

Default Love 'em both..

Went for a rip in my 98 C2S and loved the MT. It's just so mechanical. I need to drop in a Golden Rod to tighten things up but even so it was a blast. Then hopped into the Cayman PDK and drove it in manual mode. Whoa. The thing RIPS with shifts that are so astonishingly fast. My experience with the PDK is that those (Chris Harris excluded) that doggedly push a MT and dis the PDK most often have not driven a PDK over any length of time. They just simply don't know it's brilliance. It's a true Porsche product through and through. Love 'em both.

P.s. And I don't think Porsche could have won the Le Mans 24 with a MT. Just sayin'...

You forgot the #1 reason - NASCAR still uses a manual transmission & Formula 1 doesn't.

Don't they still use carburetors, too?

Anyway, real men (and women) drive manuals with unsynchronized straight-cut gears.

And shave with straight razors.... Real men know better than to head to home depot to retrieve a left handed ratchet and that a Phillips screwdriver isn't an antacid cocktail.

Does it mean "real men" don't own a new Ferrari or Mc Laren?
(Ther is no new Ferrari or Mc Laren with MT)

The "real men" silly statement reminds me when some old pilots in the old days used to say that real men fly airplanes equipped with conventional gear instead of the tricycle gear.
