Get the black stripe. It looks great on my Spyder also with black wheels. Congratulations....

Thanks. Black stripes and rear emblem ordered from Suncoast. I'll find a local pro to install them.

Ordered some black floor mats too to offset all of the red interior.

So, I bought a nice 2011 White with PDK and 30,000 miles. now I am confused, is this referred to as a 987.2? Is the 3.4 motor a 996 ?

So far I love it, drove it north to south in the week end rain storm....no leaks, hydroplane all the way

Congrats on the new Spyder. Make sure you start a new post and include pictures!

As far as the engine, it's a 3.4L DFI so no issues with the IMS and not the same engine as the 996.

Piling on here with well wishes on your Spyder.

As you probably know, the 2012 Spyders with red interiors came with black carpets which, some would say, provided some much needed contrast. The black mats you ordered should do the same.

Best of luck with the car!

Congrats, you will love it!
My 2012 red leather did not have black carpets, I had a set of floor mats made out of Alcantera to match the inserts on the LWB's and added a Porsche crest in a lighter grey. They look great, match the other Alcantera accent panels, break up the red and have held up great.

I stand corrected. Thought Porsche moved to black carpets in the '12 red interior Spyders. Wondering if perhaps your '12 was a very early car produced in that model year. I know at some point black carpets replaced the red, but I guess the model year is not necessarily determinative of carpet color.

All of them came with Red carpeting. Some owners opt to put black floormats on it. Carrera red floormats are avilable. FYI, the plastic heel pad is black, and the fuse door is black, so in some pictures you might see bits and pieces of black.

The bigger mystery was the steering wheel (standard). Some owners with red interior got black steering wheels, some got red.

Sorry for the bad intel.

Congratulations, Egan70 (and, gcleeper). Sorry, didn't track this thread; does your car have bucket seats? If so, how do you like them? You guys got yourself vaunted classic Porsche steering feel (disregarding unassisted setups of the yore)! You probably would end up keeping it for good! You would be glad you did! :-)

No LWB's for me. I have back issues and while they felt fine for a few minutes, I knew they would be tough over a 2 hour drive.

Actually in 2012 Porsche did allow the black deviating carpet for the red interior. I'm not certain when it started but it was definitely available and I have seen a few in this configuration. IIRC Eduardo's Spyder had the black carpeting....I'll try to look it up and post back.

Here is the link to Eduard's old Spyder, the carpeting can be seen further into the thread. https://rennlist.com/forums/987-981-...m-order-2.html

FYI - I bought a CarFax 5 pack and still have 2 VIN's left. If anyone is shopping and needs a car checked, the first two to PM me get them. I can run the report and email you the pdf.
