Buying my first Porsche!

Some good advice here.
If this is your first Porsche I would say get the 981S. You will be getting what is arguably the most exotic looking production Porsche to carry a flat 6 at a real bargain price. The iconic flat 6 engine carries with it a rich Porsche tradition steeped in racing history. The power delivery and response will be different than the turbo 4.
If you can drive stick, I would also recommend the MT. It mates well with the flat 6 and really connects you to the car. With that said, the PDK is faster and a truly superlative transmission but ultimately less involving.
Options that are must haves to me with the 981:
PASM or X73 and 20" wheels. The ride, feel, and handling responsiveness of the 981 with these options was markedly improved over stock
18w Sport seats. The 14w aren't bad but the lack of lateral support is really noticeable. The right seat can make a huge difference.
Full leather with deviated stitching, while admittedly, this is purely cosmetic, it really gives the cabin a premium exotic sports car look.
Sport Chrono. While most will say this option matters more with PDK equipped cars as it provides launch control and a touch quicker 0-60 times, I actually think the Rev matching you get on MT cars is transformive, especially if your heel and toeing is a little sloppy. Perfectly rev matched downshifts makes shifting gears like a pro as easy as it can get while still providing a true MT experience. And ofcourse as your rev matching chops improve you can easily switch it off. (Note: I believe rev matching became available on the 981 in 2014)
Good luck with your search. As a happy 981 Spyder owner who has owned more than a few Porsches over the years I can say that the 981 platform is spectacular.

Hello everyone, new to the site. I've admired the Boxster since I was a kid and I have my first real job that will let me afford a car like this. I'm upgrading from my subaru outback which has 250k miles on it that I've driven for the past 15 years since highschool, so it won't take much to impress me!
Budget is ~60-65K, so I was wondering if I should go for a used 981, 981s Boxster or a new 718.
This is the build I'm considering:

Thanks for your insight!

The new 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster Roadster could be a great choice for you. With $57,050 MSRP, I think this will be a great fit to your budget.

Money is definitely a consideration as my wife and I are buying a new home as well! My finance guy is telling me to get a honda, but I told him to eff off.
I'm finding nice 981S that are 15-20K less than the base 718, so yeah I'm really thinking about getting a CPO Boxster!

Just got back from a short spin. After one particularly fun cornering move while listening to the angry snarling, snapping, popping noises from the engine, I told my wife "And that is why I intend never to sell this car". It just doesn't get old. I only wish I lived in an area with less road congestion. The fun runs aren't often enough available in safe conditions around here.
