Buying my first Porsche!

You can get a CPO 981S for waaay less than any 718. You could get the 981, drive it for a few years, then get a CPO 718 and still be ahead financially. Unless money is no object, or you intend to keep it forevorish, this seems pretty clear-cut to me. Let someone else figure out the bugs in the 718...
Reconsider PASM. It is designed primarily for street use. It makes for a smoother ride and improved motion control over the standard and sport suspension on all roads. The only trade-off is cost/complexity.

I'm finding nice 981S that are 15-20K less than the base 718, so yeah I'm really thinking about getting a CPO Boxster!

Hello. Ask a simple question, get a hundred different answers....I'm in a similar position to you, just getting my 1st porsche. I went with a 718, and got it about a month ago (manual, not PDK). I live in the snowy northlands, so I have not used it much yet (only about 300 miles) but my 1st impressions....Love it! Tons of fun, comfortable, and it "feels" just right. I'm not into racing, I just want a fun ride when I hit the mountain roads in my home state of Vermont. I've never been a car guy, but it seemed like the time was right for a 2 seater. I know some of the old school folk complain about the new engine, but I have nothing but positives to say. Good luck.
CONGRATS! I bet you can't wait until it gets warm. The noise really didn't bug me much either, but again maybe because I don't have the same connection with NA Porsche's. Did you try driving any 981?

Buy the best 981 inside your budget. You'll get far more car for your money. Plus they're better anyway because of the NA6, lighter weight, arguably better looking...

Ideal car is GTS manual X73 but if that's over then the S. P.S. don't listen to these anatomically deficient rennlisters whose backsides get cold. Actually it's your head, arms, shoulders in a Boxster and nothing in a Cayman.

CONGRATS on the new 718! How long is the build and delivery taking you?
I'm moving and starting my new job July 1st so if I were to get a new vehicle I was thinking about ordering it sometime in the next 30 days so that it could be ready for me at the dealership when I move down.

It took me roughly four months to test drive and finally settle on the configuration. But I wasn't in any hurry.

Interaction at traffic light yesterday while driving my 981 Boxster Spyder in top down weather here in Florida:
Him: Your car sounds amazing. That exhaust sound, wow!
Me: Thanks. And it's a factory exhaust!
Him: Holy S%^t! That's insane!

I hate to say it but I agree with your finance guy. If you are taking on a new home purchase I would get a regular driver (Honda) and go that route for a couple years until you are 100% comfortable with your home and payment. Then shop for your first P-car. Don't overload your monthly costs and add stress to your life when it is not necessary. Just my 2 cents. Good luck, regardless.

Thanks for your advice!
I'm currently living in arctic New York, but will be moving down to south Florida in a few months (hence the drop top!).
Yeah I'm a bit particular re: the color scheme so I think that may be the deal breaker unless I'm lucky. I'll have to drive some Porsche's with a beige interior to figure out if that will be bothersome, thanks for the tip!

When I returned to the PNW I saw people driving with the tops down 12 months of the year, myself included in my 08 TT cab.
A must-have option for Florida? Ventilated seats. No question.
Good luck on your hunt!

I have owned a CPO 2007 911, a CPO 2014 Cayman S a new Macan GTS and I just took delivery of a new 718 Cayman S. I have loved them all and have had no trouble with used. New have been nice because I have gotten exactly what I want. You really cannot go wrong. welcome to Porsche. It is habit forming!

Good luck to you here. I am excited since this is also my first Porsche. Hopefully, this year I can get my dream 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe. A little bit advice, choose the best car that you'll think is closer to your heart and you really like. Just focus on it and search well it's specs.

Yup. I'm on my 9th Porsche since falling in love with an early 70's 911 over 30 years ago. If I can land a deal on a Cayenne diesel loaner from the local dealer after buyback of my Touareg, I'll make it to #10. These cars are like none other.

Indeed - the recommendations here to go for a lightly used 981 are spot-on. They seem to have depreciated considerably. I just picked one up for $42k out the door, not too dissimilar to your configurator, though different colors.
