987 Boxster - Manual Roof Operation
I may be interested in a Boxster, and as part of the upgrades, I'd like to have a purely manual roof with the motors removed.
Friend has a NA (Gen 1) Miata, and it's great how it's such a simple operation.
Any thoughts?

I own a 2009 Boxster and I'm not sure you could achieve this. My guess is that the motor serves as the "latch" for the lid that covers the soft top when in the open position. I would think you could have no problem with the opening and closing of the roof sans the motor, but not sure how the lid would latch or remain closed and not bouncing when hitting bumps. Just my two cents.
