Question Is my Boxster S 3.2 or 3.4?

Hi All,

All this time ive been thinking that my 2006 987 Boxster S was a 3.2 M96.26 model & not an M97.21
After all thats what it says on my registration.

In a vin look up im pretty sure its says 3.2 aswell.
My vin according to my last Porsche Melbourne receipt is wp0zzz98z7u720467 and engine no 67701971.

But upon looking under the car to do an oil change i found this engine number.

If i have the 3.4 model this would make sense why i couldnt perform berty987 TB upgrade as it has the factory 75mm...

Anyway can someone please tell me if i have the 3.2 or 3.4 and does this mean i have vario cam?

Thanks & Regards,

J.

I don't believe that Porsche built a 3.2 Liter for the Boxster or Cayman. The two sizes I have seen are the Base 2.9 Liter and S 3.4 Liter. This carried through to the DFI engines that came to be in 2009 and the 981 series.

The 2006 Boxster S was a 3.2.

The M97 base was a 2.7 and the 981 base was a 2.7......only the 987.2 base ('09-'12) was a 2.9....and it was not DFI, only the 3.4 was until the 2.7 in the 981.

You have a 3.2 M97 with Variocam.

Here is your Porsche Spec.

Thank you A432!

Would i benefit from the IPD 82mm plenum as i have a vario cam? Ive read that non vario cam models lose torque in the lower rpm range hence why people recommend sticking to 75mm...

A432 how did you get to the link that you posted? I was looking through the PCNA website and I wasn't able to find anything other than the current cars and the classic cars.

Wiki is clearly wrong too....I should know better than to look at that to gather my "facts"

YW. Imho no, a 3.2 doesn't really need the 82mm unless there's lots of other work done to it.

Actually Porsche built the 3.2 Liter engine for the Boxster.
The first Boxster S, (986S) was 3.2 liter and the Boxster S (987S) was 3.2 Liter from December 2004 till the beginning of 2007.
I know it because my 986S and 987S were 3.2 Liter. Then suddenly, on early 2007, Porsche installed the 3.4 liter Cayman S engine on the Boxster S
(derated by I think 10hp)

Quick Reply: Is my Boxster S 3.2 or 3.4?
