Default 718 Spyder release date?

Hello folks,
any Idea when the 718 spyder will be coming? 2018 or 2019?
does it make sense to put a deposit if I want a PTS or should I wait until it is confirmed that it will be a NA? (If it is gonna be a turbo, I'd rather buy a 911)

Release date is still up yet to be determined. The GTS has been spied being tested recently without body updates. My guess is 2019 for the Spyder... Unless they change it to the 718 GT4 Spyder?

As for PTS... that is a very tricky one. I suggest you read Eduardo's sticky thread above. Porsche typically opens up PTS in the middle of the ordering cycle to be completed at the end of production. So having a early production means you won't get PTS. When I ordered my Spyder, I passed on my first available allocation and gambled on the second hoping PTS and the LWB would be available. Luckily they did eventually become available. Also note that Porsche only allows A very few amount of cars for PTS. For the 981 Spyder, only 18 were approved for North America.

The new name Boxster 718 is a reference to the original flat four 718 race car. I can't imagine a 718 with 6cyl.

Even if I don't want to beleive it, I think this is what is going to happen. if the car comes in 2018, where will Porsche get a NA 6 cyl from? a GT3? They will never put a GT3 ENGINE IN A BOXSTER.

If they do it, it will be the best car ever. But they will increase the price dramatically

I'd bet cash money on both of those statements... at least for now. The Spyder is not a GT car, and would never get an H6 IMO... but Porsche could make it a GT car by naming it GT4 Spyder. That it's certainly possible, and even likely. That will also depend how the H4T does saleswise. Also interesting if Porsche makes a mid-engine 911, which would be a Cayman 911, more than a mid-engine 911, since 911 means rear-engine since the beginning of time. That could be interpreted as a Cayman with a GT3 engine. He he. We'll see.

The 987 Cayman R and Spyder gained respectability for the models in general, similar to the manner in which the GT4 and new Spyder gained respectability for the 981s. It seems to me they'll likely use the 718 GT4 and Spyder to boost the image and sales of the new turbo4 models. I don't see how they do this if they drop a 6 cylinder in them. Seems much more likely to me they tune the heck out of the 2.5, and slap on some GT suspension bits. Bingo. Easy Peasy parts bin formula. It works, so why change?

The only thing I'm 100 percent, absolutely sure of is that none of us have any clue when the next Spyder will be released and what motor will be in it. I'd bet 718 w/turbo but only because that's the only thing I can pull out of my *** at the moment.

I think so that the 718 GT4/Spyder will be turbo charged motors as well. Sort of like admitting oh yeah for the uber spec car we are putting in the better motor so the 4 banger turbo you got in there is ****e.

Porsche has stated that they will not (no promises here!) put a turbo in their GT cars (GT2??). So we might expect a GT4 with a 3.8 six tuned to 400+ hp. The Spyder was never considered a "GT" car so I'd expect a turbo four with 385 +/- hp.

Hey, my guess is as good as anyone's!!

Officially mark me down as being in the camp that thinks both the next GT4 and Spyder will have a NA 6. But I'm hoping the majority of you that are predicting turbo are 100% correct.

They also promised, after the 968's demise, that they wouldn't use four-cylinder engines in sports cars in general.

Also, they are going to build a wall around Ingolstadt and force Audi to pay for it.
