First post here. I may have the opportunity to buy the following spec car. My question is what have people been paying for the Spyder in the used market? $5 -10K below MSRP?

I was thinking of starting a thread to discuss the Secondary Spyder Market. I'm saying it now: I bet the Spyder will sell for twice its msrp in 5-7 years or sooner. Of course I have a couple of horses in the race; however, this is my prediction - 2 cents.

Oh yeah, for the O.P., I think if you are willing to move quickly and without much discernment, then, yes, you are right regarding price 5-10 off MSRP right now. Racing Yellow is a fantastic color on the modern Porsches IMHO.

Unicorn, welcome and glad to hear you are on the hunt for a Spyder

This particular car, as I'm sure you know, is minimally equipped. Very few Spyders we come across are spec'd below $90K with many exceeding $100K. Having said that, every Spyder is very special and just because a car isn't optioned to the hilt hardly means that the driving experience is any less amazing.

If you can get the car at 5-10% below MSRP, or between $79-84K, I would grab it assuming the car is straight and all checks out. It's a great color and the mileage is low, but obviously you would still want to use caution and do your due diligence to weed out any concerns. If I was the seller of this car I wouldn't budge below MSRP and would probably ask above to recoup some of my taxes.

There simply are no more of these cars being made. It's a single model-year car that was made in very low numbers and many were ordered and snatched up long before the mainstream even became aware of the car.

While the car has been totally overshadowed by the GT4 for the last year, don't expect that to always be the case. As time wears on this car will be appreciated for what it is: more rare than a GT4; more emotionally engaging than the GT4; better looking than the GT4 (perhaps the most sexy, sinuous, shapely P-car in recent history) -- and did I mention the top goes down?!

In short, once the rest of the world catches on to what we here already know, this car will not only hold its value, but it will appreciate IMO. I like Andrew's prediction about 981 Spyder prices in the next 5-7 years, although the stuff I'm smoking obviously isn't as strong as his

And if in a few years Porsche announces that the next-gen 982 Spyder is turbocharged (unlikely IMO), look out! 981 Spyder prices will go THROUGH THE ROOF

2 used spyders have sold at local P dealer for 15-25 k over recently both had no racing seats and had 2-4k miles on them. at the same time I have seen a couple sell around MSRP or 2k under as well. So I think the market is basically 5k under MSRP to 25k over msrp for a lightly used spyder. I have not seen any sell used w/ racing seats yet but I would assume they would pull more $$$$. I did see a no mile racing seat spyder advertised here on the board for 50k over but hear the mods deleted the guys ad for some odd reason.

I see there are a couple, one white metallic and the other guards red here in Canada, each selling for what appears to be close MRSP. I agree this may be the last of the NA Spyders and something to hang on to and enjoy. But then again, here we have Porsche bringing BACK the MT in the upcoming GT3. So they do appear to listen to us and who knows what the next Spyder will be!

Very optimistic. Will most likely be below msrp by about 15% at that time. But I do like the way you are thinking. I'd put double msrp at about 2031 or later.

Well you must now never ever drive your car as the value will go down. Put it in a climate control room on jack stands and a car cover don't even look at it as the value may come down from looking at the car.

When I was selling mine about a month ago, there were 15-20 low mileage used Spyders on the market, all but one or two that were asking right on MSRP. That was the asking price. I priced mine a few k under simply to avoid the back and forth. Sold it for the ask at $4k under a $98k sticker, which I paid $96k for new. I had decent interest in the car, but there wasn't a hoard breaking down my door to buy it. I do think these cars will hold value decently, but I think they idea that they're going to sell above MSRP is wishful thinking. Particularly considering these cars are very likely to get driven, rather than mothballed, given how fun they are to drive.
