Do you think it is possible to obtain 450hp with these motors? What would that entail i.e. bolt on and tune vs. Internals. What about torque?

Do you have any performance figures? 0-60, 1/4 mile, track times etc?

Well, a factory 991S motor with the PowerKit option would give you a proven 430 HP.

Also, what does the S provide that the regular does not? Seems to make more sense to get a non-S.

350 (non S) vs 400 (S). But are you talking engines or donor car? The S donor car would have better brakes and a few other standard options over the base.

No I was referring to the donor car (eg Boxster); would make sense to use a base unless there are other significant advantages to the S

BTW, the stock GTS motors are also used by other Gran Sport teams which is a testament to the strength and reliability of the 9A1 motor.

The same engine regs do not apply to the DeMan Cayman builds described in the article freeing DeMan to tune the motors for higher levels of performance, as I understand it.
You have done your homework!!

The 3.8L GTS engine is outstanding right out of the box, 408 HP is Porsche's advertised rating. With unrestricted exhaust , freeing up induction side of things and ECU tuning the engines we have installed in Cayman conversions (11 to date of the X51 and 9 of the 3.8L S engine) have made a high so far of 447 HP for the X51 and 410 for the S..
We are in Love with the cars and love this conversion..

Give a call with any questions..

Regards

I was at RRR today and Mike showed me photos of the CTSCC ST Cayman you are building for them. It looks to match the great craftsmanship and attention to detail that he and Jim have pointed out to me on the GTS GS car of theirs that you built. They're great guys and Rebel Rock and DeMan Motorsport should be a great combo. I can't wait to see them in action at Sebring and the new Cayman at Laguna Seca!

He's getting all hard bushings in the drivetrain, headers, flash and one heck of a new paint job. For now, the car can go to the body shop for paint while we wait for the arrival of the 3.8L, send off the cylinder heads for porting and await the arrival of the exhaust manifolds.

I have some photos below.

I called Morgan last week to see if he wanted a baseline dyno so that all of you guys can see what you're getting for your money. She made 305rwhp which is just what a 3.4L makes. Actually, that motor is probably pretty cherry since she should have dyno'd right at 300rwhp. We hope to return with 390rwhp PLUS.

Stay tuned!

this is from a stock 3.4 981 motor!!! ?

???? If you are referring to the dyno plot, that was a baseline pull on the stock 3.4 engine before it was pulled to put in the 3.8L

That decent oh for a stock 3.4 DFI (no mods). Didn't know they were running that strong. Compared to the 991 3.8 it's sure down on torque but strong for a 3.4

Porsche seems to underrate their engines in general, which is a good thing.

Here is an interesting offer for those needing a 3.8L engine from a 3.4
