2014 Porsche Cayman Thread - 991 Conversion
#31
Is it just me or do others see it? It actually raised and not lowered, especially in the back end.

"Minus some rocker vinyl and some lowering springs that we decided to add a few hours ago, the car is now 97% finished but photos are long overdue."

Yes...I just took an order from a customer who sent me a used Boxster 2014 spec 981. You don't need to start with an S.

Given that you can equip a Cayman S to be well over $100k from the factory, this seems like a deal and a half for $92k.
Are you planning on selling this conversion as a service going forward or is this a one-off car?
Also, is it a manual or PDK? Does the conversion work with either transmission?

I would be utterly surprised if this conversion didn't immediately void the entire warranty of the car. Are you sure about that?
Also, are there going to be issues getting this car registered or general legality issues given that the VIN on the engine block won't match the VINs stamped on the rest of the car?
If warranty and registration aren't issues, then this becomes a very tempting proposition.

Given that it's an engine swap, yes, the warranty will be void. HOWEVER, we are offering a 30 hour labor credit to anyone to be used whenever/wherever and if you're local, we would consider setting up some sort of 1 year drivetrain troubleshoot, whatever. Yes, warranties won't be void after this BUT we're not trying to scare anyone either.
There is no matching of engine serial numbers, etc. and while I am not by any means suggesting this, someone may not even know. BUT I wouldn't suggest it and I would just assume be up front with any dealership about what has been done to this car.

John,
What are the corner balance weights no fuel?
I doubt the weight would go up much for a GT3 engine and brakes upfit along with the additional radiator. Add some aero for complete package.
Can the stock gearbox take the torque?
This car at 92k is cheaper than some regular Caymans with crap options, but I can't help wonder what the price and weight would be if you max it out with GT3 parts.

It's making 400 crank hp stock. It has no flash, no headers, no high flow filters and Guard's transmission ratios will work in this transmission. Don't waste your time and $ with the GT3 idea, as it's not worth the $. You said it yourself that you could have $100K in this thing making near 400 rwhp. With all due respect, let's get going!

^ Beautiful! Looks MUCH better lowered and I like the rocker vinyl matching the calipers, too.

No...I think that whoever wrote that was on the same page that we were on in thinking that the car sat too high. We took a car from 18" wheels to 20" wheels and it had HUGE fender gap.
I think the best thing that i just discovered was that we got 2.0 degrees of camber on all 4 corners WITHOUT modifying anything, just by lowering it and using the factory eccentric adjustments for toe/camber.

That's me Got a great deal on a base 981 Boxster with just a couple thousand miles on it as a donor car and had it shipped straight to BGB. Excited to work with John and the BGB team on this project, will post pics and thoughts once I get the car later this summer.
