Default PSE Install, Does this sound right?

Thinking of upgrading to PSE on my Spyder and these are the prices my dealer is quoting:

-Exhaust = $1996.08
-Harness = $69.54
-Console Switch = $172.32 (black version)

Total = $2237.94 (Parts only)

Labor = Est. $960 (8hrs estimated time of install... half of that being electrical work).

Grand Total = $3,200 (give or take depending on labor time.)

Does this sound right? Is the labor time right or more than 8 hours quoted?

Also I heard there is two versions of PSE... One that is for Euro Noise Restrictions and another which is louder. Is this true? If so does anyone know the part number for the louder one?

That sounds about right. I always got quoted between when $3000-$3500 total when inquiring about adding PSE to any of the CPO'd 997Ss on my local dealers lot. You could save a few labor hours if you do away with the switch and leave the PSE on full time, which I do by choice anyway. A light throttle is more than okay to get you by the neighbors without incident.

Is that an option??? Everyone I know keeps it on all the time. That would save the cost on labor, the console switch and harness. Hmmm, I might have to go that route.

based on the quotes I've gotten, that sounds like a good price installed. I assume you are reusing your stock black tips (which I would have done).

The quote sounds right, from the factory PSE is 2500.00, adding it after you pay the labor. 8 hours seems a lot to me, 4 hours for electrical also seems like a lot. I have heard about the 2 version of the PSE but to be honest I think I read somewhere there is only one and the RPM cut out I do not notice on mine. The after market I put on my STI does not really come alive until after 4k RPM's either. So not really sure of the whole 20-40MPH noise cut off.

Is about right...Have an 09 997.2 and added PSE after purchase (it was on the lot with ther regular exhaust). Got quoted around $1800 on exhaust plus 3-4 hrs labor intially at time of purchase and had them go ahead and order the parts and set up to get it done soon as it arrived. In fact took delivery as soon as they confirmed the parts for the PSE were located at the warehouse and had drop ship confirmation. Turns out in all 09+ cars (Boxster/Cayman/911) Porsche AG stopped wiring them for PSE at the factory...pre-09 cars had it done at the time of manufacture on the production line it seems. So they needed to pull panels and carpet and such and wire the car from exhaust back to the center stack for the PSE...thus the 8 hrs labor and excess cost you see!

Luckily when I did a double take on the price when I dropped it off for the install the sales manager and service manager had a quick conference and agreed to honor the original price quote I was given a purchase (since I ordered and paid for it then) and charged me for NO more than 4hrs labor. In other words they ate the other 3-4hrs of labor which was very nice of them...I definately appreciated it!

So bottom line..order PSE from the factory or find a good and honest sales/service shop!

The 2 versions may just be a rumour. It's been mentioned before but i haven't seen any evidence. Apparently, all you have to do is to unplugged 1 connector in the engine bay and the exhaust valve will fail open. hence, loud all the time. don't know if the dealer would allow you to do that though.

re the switch delete, I have never heard of this being possible. That would be great.

Generally all German brands have a list of exact defined work time frames (Arbeisteinheiten AE or Work unites WU) for every job that could be done on your car. Its the same here in Northern America. That's why every one is telling you that the price is right. If you want to safe some $$ have it done at a specialized free garage.

Default Performance Gain

Do you know what the performance return (hoursepower & torque) you get when adding the PSE?

Likely none. It's all about the sound and asthetics. If you want power then you need to go with adding an X-51 kit to the car.

We sell the PSE that is switched by remote as a DIY kit at 1695 Euro.
With shipping that is around $2400.

The electronic control box plugs into the original connector , you install the exhaust and the vacum line, plug in the PSE valve : Done !

The remote allows you to switch the exhaust from loud to silent whenever you want.
No hassle with electronics, no need to push buttons every time you start, no speed cut outs, no dealer needed...

There's a 981 PSE on planet9 classifieds for $1295. Put it on and drive for awhile. Then decide if you need the switch.
I can't say for sure if the 3.8 is the same as 3.4.

For my Boxster S, I bought the Suncoast complete kit and had my local Porsche dealer install for $760 labor. I believe at the time Suncoast was charging $2,095, but they've dropped the price since.

Those prices he was quoting are from 2011. There was a major thread revival 2 posts up
