Default Porsche CR-1 radio

I'm looking for a working CR-1 radio to bring my 968 back to original spec. Seems these go for big money these days, and have me thinking about looking into the new Porsche Classic Radio Navigation system (though I can't justify the price since I won't be using the tiny nav screen at all).

As I search for a CR-1, I've found a few different part numbers associated with them - 993.xxx.xxx.xx, 964.xxx.xxx.xx, etc. Are these really model specific, or can they be interchanged between models so as to allow me to use one for my 968? If so, is it plug and play or will some re-wiring be necessary?

Really can't stand the modern era system that was put in place, so I want to find something oem even if it means changing to a CD-1 or CD-2, CDR-210 or CDR-220...

Thanks.

I just ordered a Continental radio for my 968 (CR-1 busted) and my 911SC. It's Bluetooth as well. I'll receive it tomorrow and attempt to install...

CDR220 looks good in the cabin and has an AUX input, for use in the 44/68 you have to have the screen modified as it was in a different viewing position in the 996/etc. I bought mine modified from SW Stereo.

I was thinking about ordering on of those Continental radios. I've heard about the viewing angle being off. Is it really necessary to adjust the angle? Has anyone had any experience making these adjustments? Thanks

Working with a local company who is building a small "black box" so when you push CD on the original CR-1 it holds the line open and then has a blue-tooth connection available for music only. Not a blue-tooth to phone adapter. Just allows the CD input to be used for blue-tooth. This sounds easy but the problem is when you push CD it expects the CD player to answer back; if it does not answer back it will not stay on CD. All you will have to do is plug this black box din cable into the open (if you dont have a CD player original option) CD expansion port on the back of the CR-1. If you have an original CD player you have two choices...either unplug it and plug this in its place or buy the other item they make which allows you to switch between your CD player and an aux in.

I put this in my 993 and it's great. Plug and play if your original wiring is intact. I posted a couple of pics in the A/V forum a while back. Unfortunately, my wiring had been cut up, but i restored it to original. Here's the link

Not wired in because I didn't want to cut up the original harness, or the CR-1. New harness that will be almost plug and play on the way from Crutchfield. Sorry for the threadjack.

the oem harness in my 92 cab with the 8 speaker option is the typical 944 power/ground/switched/antenna flat connector and a single 8 pin round DIN that splits to the amps under the front seats. (i haven't had a radio in years)

can you post a picture of your harness? you might have the older becker/blaupunkt DIN with the serial cd control.
